Great interest was taken in the
Democratic primaries throughout the
county Saturday. All the delegates
reported bo rar are good, solid Dem
oqrats who will nomiuate a top-notch
county ticket next Saturday. Fol­

Mrs. K D. Hawley, of Creewell, was
the scene of a most charming aud
unique social gathering on the even­
ing of April 8th.
Invitations were
issued to a “Spring Picnic” in honor
of the sixteenth birthday cf their
daugb'er, Miss Hattie. The rooms
wine be-iuti ully decora’ed ano com­
pletely carried out the “out dour”
effect while Japanese lanterns shed a
soft light throughout. The large ball
was a prefect bower of green, The
staircase, wall and celling were cov-
ered with interlacings of ivy. and
large ferns and potted ptants com­
pleted the effect.
The front parlor
was in pink and green, the color
scheme being carried out with peach
blossoms, ferns and ivy. The back
parlor was all in green, Or boughs,
ivy,ferns and potted plants being used
for decorations.
A short musical program delighted
, the guests, after which the games of
1 IIinch and pit were engaged in.
A
delicious lunch was served “picnic
faBhion,” io the dining room, whose
decorations in green and yellow bad
transformed it into an ideal picnic
ground. Oregon grape, daffodils,
ivy, ferns and fir boughs were used
in profusion.

The Gardiner stage came '.’p the

first trip it has made for nearly two
months. The heavy rains during Feb-

quicksand that traveling on the beach
was dangerous.

A subscription paper was circulated
here by Marion Morris a few days
ago to raise money to assist in send­
ing Drew Severv to a hospital for
medical treatment.
The sum of
3120.75 was subscribed, and all but a
few dollars paid immediately. An­
other paper is being circulated among
the members of the Modern Woodmen
of America and quite a snug sum in
addition to the above will be raised
from this source.
Mr. Severy has
been ill for several mouths and has a
large family of small children. His
physician advisee that he go to a hos­
pital. His many friends here hope be
will soon recover his health.
