criminal cases, and is not yet ready

charged with forgery, wore arraigned
late yesterday afternoon and time for
pleading was set for today, At 1:3»'
o’clock they appeared and both eu
tored pleas of guilty. Timo for son-
fence was Het for tomorrow moruing
at 9 o’clock.

This morning at 9 o’colck Earl
Eastman and H. II. Skewes were sen­
tenced by Judge Hamilton of tlm cir­
cuit court to four mid two years re­
spectively, for forgery.
Eastman and "kewes were brought
into the court room at the appo'tited
time. Eastn'an was ordered to stand
lip, ami when asked by the judge
whether or not he had anything to say
why sentence should not be pars»
upou him, replied, "No, sir” At

prisoner, then made a short plea for

It appears that the Barnes brothers,
who are all young men aud ought to
know better, tore down the rural free
delivery mail box in front of John
Maughn’s place, immediately across

where they have teen chopping wood.
The Barnes boys were brought to
Eugene this forenoon and were
have been given an examination be­
fore United States Commissioner J.

The penalty for such an offense is

Later—Ernest and Frank Barnes
were bound over in the sum of <250

JUVENILE BASKET
BALL GAME
In a fierce game of basketball yes­
terday afternoon at the Patterson
school gymnasium the Junior Athlet­
ic Club defeated the Patterson school
team by a score of 19 to 11.
Both teams put up team work that
was surprising, aud some brilliaut
playing was done by the youngsteis,
who have had no training but their
own and have picked up the game by
watching the University team play.
The boys will pluy another game i
the near future, as the Patterson
school boys are anxious to wipe out
the staiu of defeat. The teams lined
