HARTWICK GETS TWO YEARS IN PEN ATTEMPTED terrible crine Options Secured on 4.000 Acres of Land- They Desirej to Secure 20,000 Acres. The following item appeared in the Portland Journal Saturday: "Antoni Ossowski, tbe Polish agent from Chi cago, who expects to locate about 2000 of bis oountrymeu iu Oregon, expects to arrive in this state about December 20, with his colonists. Mr. Ossowski ba» secured an option on several thousand acres of land near Eugene and will start East tonight for a con ference with the prospective pur chasers. • * •" Supplementing tbe above, a Guard representative called on Messrs. Frasier A Miller, the real estate men, and ascertained the fact that they are tbe parties who are negotiating with the managers of the Polish colony. After considerable corres' ondence, Mr. Osscwski visited Eugene last week, and went thoroughly over the territory with Mr. Frasier, and as an ussurrance of hia delight with this section of the state, which he said suited him better than auy section of tho Northwest, he took an option on nearly four thousand acres of tbe best land in Laue connty. It was bis in te ut ion when he came West to secure an option on a large tract of cheap unimproved foot bill land, but Mesares. Frasier A Miller advised him —and we think they advised him cor rectly—that if he wished to make a success of his colony, and lay the foundation for future growth aud prosperity, he Lad much better se cure the best improved aud bigbest grade soil in the valley. After care ful Investigation Mr. Ossowski was convinced that this was the proper course and he secured tbe option re ferred to. This is only tbe begin ning and be has authorized his agents here, Messrs. Frasier A Miller, to secure not less than 20,000 acres. WILL BE HERE DEC. 20. A telegram was received from Mr. Ossowski this morning stating that be would be here about Dec. 20, with bis first invoice of settlers. At his suggestion to bis agents, tbe exact location of tbe colony will not be made public at the present time, or until suffi lent options are secured, but suffice it to say, Lane connty will get the colony.
