The new rate heavily increases the assessments upon the members over fifty-five year of age. At a meeting of 1000 protesting members of the order held here, resolutions were adopted outlining their grievances and concluding with the following declaration: “After consulting eminent legal authorities the committee is con vinced that if the supreme lodge officials fail to heed the protests of the aggrieved membership and the demands of fraternity and equity, but on the other hand persist in the enforcement of the new plaus, then in loyalty to the order, members must seek legal and exact justice through an appeal to the courts under the well defined principles of equity, as laid down by the courts of this and other states and of the United States.” Activities Near Manila.
