This is the last issue of the Weekl Guard that will reach many of our readers prior to the special election for congressman for this district, A word more, Hermann has a rotten record—his supporters have made no attempt to defeud him. They could not—there is no ground for them to stand on. Reames is a Native Son, a young man of good character anil standing. You have a choice. Do not forget the day of election. only a week more, Monday, June 1, but go to the polls ami vote, whatever your poli tics may be. . (Guard Special Service.) Grant's Pass, Or., May 26.—Owing to the great misrepresentation of the Republican papers in Portland of the meeting held here last night at which the Hou. Chas. Fulton, United States Senator of Oregon, was the principal speaker, it is nothing but projier that the real facts be made known. Fulton was applauded 1 but twice, His remarks at the lieginning of his speech were received silently. There were about 84 people present and the coolest of meeetings progressed with evident hostility to Hermann. As the spech progressed, the man who has held spellbound many con- vent ions, innumerable political meet ings and immense gatherings, could not work the Grouts Pass audience to a point where he was applauded. He became angry with them, glared aud stamped his feet. “And now,” said he, cutting speech short, “1 know you will all vote foi the grandest representative which Oregon ever had in the halls of the nation's capital—Biuger Her mann.” Not a word of appluuse fol lowed. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE MEET ING, PROF. HAMPTON, LEFT THE ROSTRUM AND FULTON FACED HIS IC> AUDIENCE. HE COULD STAND I F NO LONGER BUT BURST 1NLO A RAGE AND SAID, “IS IT POSSIBLE THAI THE REI UBL1CANS OF THIS DIS TRICT ARE GOING TO SEND A MAN OF THE MINORITY PARTY TO CONGRESS?" Thus ended the meeting. Who will ruswer .Mr. Fulton? Watch the Count. DISROBED ON THE STREET The baaseball game between the Roseburg “Outlaws” and S| ringfleld at Roseburg park, Hund ly, was won by the former, thescoie being 11 to 4. What better argument for Eugene could be found? Our fair city is more like Portland, the leading city of the state than any other inland city. Just look at the standing of the base ball clubs. Now say we are not met ropolitan. (Daily Guard, May 27. ) This foreoou about eleven o'clock a 8. P.
