$Sooo WANTED.
Eugene Ought to Raise the Money
at Once.
We bear a few of our citizens
saying that the city of Eugene
cannot raise a bonus of <8000 for a
factory that will have a monthly
pay roll of <3,500. This is not true.
Eugene when a village of less
than 1000 raised <50,000 bonus tor
the establishment here of the Uni
versity el Oregon which has done
so much for our city and county.
Again, when Eugene had a popu
lation of lees than 2,500 she raised
over $100,000 as a bonus to the
Biuelaw railroad, besides other
Valuable frauchi-e- w jrth $50,000
more.
Eugene gave a <1000 bonus to
the excelsior mills and every busi
ness man and property holder has
been repaid by bo doing a number
of times. Where is one man who
would withdraw his subscription to
this enterprise?
Eugene is now tbe best town in
the state in her class. For years
we hsve been talking manufactories,
and a city must have them or in
long run will fall in the rear.
We need a tin bucket brigade
badly and now wo have a chance to
get one that will scatter $42,000
annually in this community.
The G uahd believes our citizens
will raise the amount. Everyman,
woman and child should talk the
matter up and then subscribe liber
ally. We will do our part in this
matter and every citizen should do
likewise.
