It was while the other prisoners were

How u Young Woman Saved Money
fur u Wedding lour.
A promising young lawyer who has
au office iu the Girard Building lias
just made the delightful discovery that
bls fiancee Is also a financier. The
young man's sweetheart resides lu Ger
mantown. and for several months past
he has called upou her regularly thrice
a week. When he first met the girl,
two years ago, he was, of course, ex
tremely anxious to make a good Im
pression. ami he lavished muuy pres
ents upon her. The girl's parents are
quite well to do. blit she disapproves
of any sort of display or prodigality,
and when, in the natural course ot
events, the young man proposed and
w as accepted, she felt it to be her privi
lege and her duty to read him a little
lecture on "Economy." She called his
attention to lhe fact that every time
he called he had been In the habit of
bringing flowers and candy to the value
l. a dollar or two. Slie suggested that
iu the future he should discontinue the
presents, blinding over a silver dollar
instead whenever lie came to see her.
lie laughed, for he thought she was
joking, blit she speedily assured him
that slie was milch iu earnest. So he
paid bis dollar regularly, aud finally
came to the conclusion rtiut the money
was being devoted to charity. The
wedding day was ret for next month,
aud an extended tour was contemplat
ed. Unfortunately, the young lawyer
recently took a "flyer" In stocks, and
dropped so much money that he had to
notify Ills fiancee that their wedding
trip must be dispensed with. The dear
girl laughed at him, and, leaving the
roifiu for a moment, presently returned
with a satchel containing 25U silver
lollars. Their planswill not be changed.
