Is there a taxpayer in Lane
county that does not believe that
this large indebtedness and attend

ficient reasons for
tne careful
selection of the men who will ad
minister the county affairs for the
next four years? The Register,
the accredited - newspaper of the
Republican party in Lane county,
says this high tax rate aud in
debtedness are alright. Are they
samples ot the economy that the
Republican county platform pledgee
its nominees to enforce?
It is a condition of affairs that
calls for sound financial judgment,
and a careful choice of candidates
who may be depended upon to
fulfill the p'sdges that have been
made by both political parties.
II. R. Kincaid, far county judge,
and J. R. Hill, for county com

are^jlarge taxpayers. We lielieve

Two month* from now u the <l*y of n»tion»l
independence. It i* not too early to make
arrangement* for such *n event, it it is to be
done. Eugene hs* reached the ¡rroportioue of
a city where it b *lw»y* expected
that thi*
day I* properly observed
it i« not too
much to »ay that the county generally prefer*
to attend a celebration in Eugene rather than
inaugurate a smaller celebration at home.
Some of the business men of the city have
spoken of the celebration to G uabd repre
sentatives and attention is sailed at this time
to bring it plainly before tbe business com
munity.
If Eugene celebrates a meeting
should be
called within the‘next few days, and a com
mittee appointed to attend to the details,
many of which require much time to success
fully carry out. Eugene can dot afford to give
a second-rate celebration.
It should be first
class and one that all will ws.nt to attend.
Will Eugene celebrate?
