Miss Frances Gage, general secre
tary of the Y. W. C. A. for the Fa
cine northwest, was a welcome visitor
at Monmouth over Sunday. A meet
ing of the advisory board was held at
Mrs. L. A. Kobinson's on Saturday

noon Miss Gage gave an interesting
talk to a large number of students at
the regular meeting of the associa
tion. At the evening service of the

The Young People's Society
Christian Endeavor was host at an in
formal social gathering in the church
parlors on Friday evening, Sept. 24th
The scheme of the entertainment was
Japanese. After several literary and
musical numbers, charming make-be
lieve Japanese maidens served refresh
ments acosrding to the manner in the
land nf the cherrv blossom. The
evening proved a most enjoyable one.
The nonmal school training depart
ment was formally opened to the pub
lie school children on Monday, Sept
21sc. Registration will not be com

week owing to the unusually early
opening. Principal L. K. Traver and
the critic teachers weee on hand Sept,
14th, and were busy all the week mak
ing plans for lessons and necessary im
nmvements in the schoolrooms. The

Shearer, primary; Miss Grace W,
Whitehouse, 3d and 4th grades; Miss
Florence Bowden, 5th and 6th grades;
Miss Roma G. Stafford, 7th and 8th
