John H. Robinson of Portland was
in Independence for several days
during the illness and in attendance
at the funeral of his mother, Mrs.
Sarah Elinor Robinson. He was ac
companied by his wife and baby boy.
The little eight-year-old boy of Mr.
Boyle of Rickreall was thrown from a
mule the last of the week and received
severe injury to his right hand. The
hand was badly bruised and the bones
injured. A doctor from this city was
called to dress the wound.
President William P. Stark and
three members of the Missouri State
Board of Horticulture will spend two
entire weeks in Oregon before they
complete their tour of the state. The
name of Stark is well known to every
fruit grower in America, and the good
opinion of these gentlemen is worth
much to the state.
J, W Propst, while feeding thresher
for George McLaughlin near Buena
Vista, came near losing his right hand.
The band cutter's knife collided with
his hand severing the tendons of his
little and ring fingers. Dr. Butler,
who was called to dress the wound,
says that it is possible that he will
lose the use of those two fingers, how
ever, he entertains hopes that they
may be saved.
J. M. Gentry met with an accident
last week while operating the ferry at
this place. The accident occurred on
account of a mix-up with logs which
were being driven down the river. A
bunch of them collided with the
ferry boat breaking some of the gear
ing ropes which released the wheel.
Mr. Gentry lost control of the wheel
and in its mad career his right arm
was caught and . mutilated badly.
He has been under the doctor's care
for sometime on ., account of the
mishap.

Jacob Nash, the man who carries
the mail between Buena Vista and
Suver, met with a severe accident in
a runaway last Saturday. He had
just come in from the divide to Suver
and was unhitching the team when
thev became frightened and ran away.
Mr. Nash held on Jo the lines until
one of them broke and the sudden
pull on the other brought the team
around suddenly which turned the
rig upside down on him. When he
was found sometime after he was
unconscious with a great tear of the
flesh on his chin and his under
lip almost stripped off. He was also
injured about the shoulders and spine.
Dr. Butler who was called, says the
man was badly used up but that lie
promises to recover rapidly.
