O'Brien Will Grow Brewing Barley.
Charles O'Brien, a farmer who re
sides northwest of Independence, will
xperiment the coining season with a
new variety of barley which he got
tl
iroilgh the Salem Brewing Co., of
alem. . This barley is intended for
brewing purposes and its yield is said
to be higher than most other varieties.
It is stated by parties near Salem who
have grown it that if, will yield from
forty to seventy bushels to the acre.
Brewing barley has a higher market
value than the common field variety,
so that the growing of brewing kinds
gives much promise. This variety was
ordered from Milwaukee expressly for
Mr. O'Brien, at a cost of four cents a
pound. Its test will be watched with
considerable interest by the people of
this section.
