Masons Will Banquet Tonight.

banquet for all the Scottish Rights
Masons in Polk county. The banquet
will be held in the Masonic hall in
this city. The hanquet will Im pre
pared by Mrs. John Belt and it is ex
pected that the affair will be some
thing grand.
Harsh Mcrwln Visits Salem.
Marsh Menvin visited Salem Sun
day. Mr. Merwin heard Heney talk.
He drove over to Salem in a rig from
one of our city livery stables. 1 le was
accompanied by a couple of friends.
It is not known who did the driving,
hut it is known Mr. Merwin and his
friends were treated to a lively time
by the turnout from the aforesaid liv
ery stable. Whether it was the result
of becoming too much engrossed with
company or whether it was the result
of an overdose administered by Mr.
Jleneycan only be surmised. Suffice
it to Hiiy that a serious accident was
only averted by the proximity of an
embankment into which the rig and
team precipitated. Do you suppose
that he was simply ruminating over
