for representative in the state legisla
ture, was a visitor in Independence
Tuesday. Mr. Henry's announce

prise. Mr. Henry is a native Poik
county man and is in touch with the
noeds of the county.
Lewis Wiprut, who has spent the
winter in California, returned Friday
and is visiting here with friends. - He
was employed here sometime ago in
the Independence National bank and
is well known to the people of Inde
pendence. He went to Portland the
last of the week to visit his "parents
who reside in that city. -The
dinner given by the ladies' aid
society of the Methodist church was a
financial success as well as a social
event. The ladies report that they
servad something like seventy-five
plates. The room was tastefully dec
orated, the prevailing color being
green, in honor of the day. Everyone
received a souvenir at the ' door on
exit: a green ribbon bow which was
pinned on each guest by an attend
ant.
