Enterprise wishes the new
brother prosperity.
Your attention ia called' to
the notice of the fruit inspector
of Polk county which is in this
issue of the Enterprise. It is
necessary for better fruit that
the matter of spraying is done
Aud it should not be compulsory
to secure it.
. i1 .
The West Side Enterprise
will hereafter be issued once n
week. This change was deemed
to bo for the best from the
standpoint of all concerned: tha
subscriber, who wauts a better
paper than he has ever had, the
business man, who does not
feel that ho can support a twice
a week paper, and the editor
who must keep within the in
come of the office. It is with
the most sincere feeling of grati
tude that the Enterprise ac
knowledges the splendid sup
port the subscribers of this
paper are giving, by coming to
the office and making prompt
payment of all arrearages and
the many new people who are
bavin c their names enrolled on
fhA Riihscrintion list. Thank
you, everybody.,
Yes, Independence should or
ganize her band. The expense
in the matter should not all
fall on the musicians. They
are willing to do all they can
but it must be remembered
that there is considerable ex
pense in the matter of accouter
ments and as there is little rev
enue from the band services the
public should help in this mat
ter. It will be a pleasure the
summer afternoons and evenings
to come together and listen to
outdoor concerts. With the
number of good musicians that
are available the organization
which may be got here will
be far above the average. Inde
pendence wants the band. The
musicians have no more time
than is necessary to prepare for
the grand celebration Indepen
dence should observe on the
coming Fourth.

FOIt COUNTY-JUDGK.
J. a. Van Oradel, eaudidat for
county Judge of 1'olfc county Oregon,
on the democratic ticket, to 1 votJ
for at the primary on the seventeenth of
April, 19S, will ubrait the following
platform:
First: I will advocate good road
aud a fair distribution of the road tax
It Is not juet ip collect taxes from the
outlying districts, and not give the tai
payer his share of the road work to
make it more onvenient for biin to
reach market.
Sacond: No waste of public money ;
strictest economy consistent with a
good administration of county affairs;
a square deal, and good treatment for
everyone.
Third: I will try, if nominated and
elected.'to work in harmony with the
county commissioners so fur as 1 think
is' for the good of the people.
Fourth: Should the voters 01 roiit
county decide that I am the proper per
son to fill the office of county judge, I
will give to the management of the bus
iness of the county the. same energetic
and careful attention that I have given
my own business.
Fifth: I believe in the direct pri
mary. I think tbis is one of the agen
cies in the hands of each electer to
bring the government nearer to the
people, and take it out of the "boss
rule," giving us a government of the
people, by the people, and for the
people.
I will say in conclusion that I served
the people of this county fiom1898 to
1902 as skeriff, and you can look into
my record, and if found wanting, you
can tarn me down the same as yoa
should any man that was unfaithful in

FOB REPRESENTATIVE.
As a candidate on the democratic
ticket for representative of Polk
county I declare my unwavering al
legiance to statement No. 1.
Seventy-eight per cent of the voters
of Oregon having supported the direct
primary law shows that the people
know what they want and I will, if
elected, pledge myself to vote for the
candidate for United States senator
who receives the highest number of
the people's votes at the June elec
tion, without individual preferece.
If nominated and elected I shall
stand for equitable assessment and
taxation of property; most liberal
support for all our schools; state and
government ownership of the Jocks,
and will do all in my power to have an
open river for the people of the n
lamette valley. .

How Congph Germs Multiply?
When you have a cold the mucus
membrane is inflamed and the disease
germs which you breathe find lodgement
and multiply, especially the pneumonia
germs. Foley's Honey and Taf soothes
and heals the inflamed air passage,
stops the cough and expels the cold
from your system. Eefuse substitutes.

BELIEVES IN QUALITY
When a customer lnu once
beeu convinced that it pay to
buy quality, he will seldom sek
a 6tore that caters merely to
those who wish to buy the great
est quantity for the money..
Thre are communities where
quality arguments would have
no weight, Cut there are many
mora that cau be convinced that
quality pays it the right argu
ments are used.
Quality arguments are some
times slow trade builders, but
they build exceeding strong.
Bargain Good are only a
bargain to those who have not
the money with which to buy
the best; but there is generally
iv hole in the bargain.
If you simply want bargain
goods, pay the cheap price and
get them. It you want abso
lutely the best, the kinds that
bring you back, pay more and
get more.
Quality has been bohind every
business that has built up a solid
reputation.
I believe in Quality and guar
antee the quality of all my goods
to those who wish the best.
