The Oregonian has n cartoon
on its Iront juge iiiost of the
time' these days that indicates
how sincere it has been in fol
lowing out the principles enun
ciated by it for the past three
years, or in fact every since the
journal lias en hacked by
Laddetal. Ah long as it was,
fighting them it wai anything
to down the "I'rst families" an. I
.the "interests." It w.u suppos
that it was sincere and that
it
really had experienced a chang
of heart. Such however prove
to have been a mistake and like
every other change made by
that naner. it has been done f"r
.boodle. Talk about the Ore
gonian standing for 'he right;
of the people, bah! Harvey wouh
uve all his right, title and in
terest, if he ever had any, in and
to a seat in the front row in
Heaven, for a seat in the United
States Senate. All the attacks
made by him through the Ore-
igonian on the inialive, referen
dum and direct- primary law.-
arejust that many attacks made
on the people of this state and
should be resented in the proper
way. But what's the use? lh
old man has soured on every
thing since he can't get a seat
in the Senate, and his brains
hnvA evidently become dislo
cated or loosened in "some way
and have lodged in his abdomi
. ml cavity, causing corpulency
and its consequent ill effects
Evidently the old fellow bates
himself and it will be a blessing
to him and his friends when na
ture removes him from this
wicked world.
Oregon has taken the lead, in
the interests of the people in a
political way. Is she to retire to
the realms of darkness at the
behest of a few political shysters
who would tie the peoples hands
while they loot the treasury?
W-e hope not and that aff.-r the
June election the returns will
give the answer in no uncertain
terms. Let the direct primary
alone and leave statement No. 1
alone, it is a good thing. The
so-called republicans that are so
solicitous abonj. these matters
saying that no republican should
be asked to vote for a , 'democrat,
etc., should get to worlr. and see
that there is no need to do so,
'.for with such a big majority aw
there is in this state-there should
,be no question tth.-'iit electing n
republican senator," unless- all
the candid fit are - froiii the

Concerning the proposition ol

in
the Brownsville Times supposed

of that institution which will
serve to convince tho subscribers

"The Hrovnsville cannery in

for that year." The fact that
the capacity of the plant is being
doubled for the coming eoason

UICMEVIvS IN QUALITY
When a customer has once
boon convinced that it pays to
buy quality, he will seldom Peek
a "store that caters merely 'to
tho-e who wish to buy the great
est quantity for the money.
There are communities where
quality argument would have
no weight, but there are many
m.,ru !,nt pin 1k convinced that
quality pays it the right argu
ments are usi-u
Quality orrumcnts are some
times slow trade builders, hut
they build exceeding strong.
Bargain Good ore only a
bargain to those who have not
the money, with which to buy
the bestj but there is generally
ti hole in the bargain.
If you simply want bargain
goods, pay the cheap price mid
rret them. If vou want ahso
lutely the best, the kinds that
bring you back, pay more an.i
get more.
Quality has been behind every
business that has built up n solid
reputation.
, I believe in Quality ana guar
antee the duality of all my goods
to those who wish the best.
