There will be a red hot basket ball contest at Athletic hall be tween the first teams of Indepen dence and Rickreall, Saturday night. The second teams may also measure steel on the same night. The Athletic Hall and lot on which it is situated has been sold to Dr. O. D. Butler. It was the property of the old First National Bank. The price received was $1000. The property has been leased for a newlmsiness house in Independence. The lessees are Word Butler and W. M. Faulkner who will open an implement, carriage, buggy and wagon store right away. Prof. Newbill attended a meeting of valley teachers in Salem Satur day. A number of principals within reach ot the Capital, meet once a month in the office of the Superintendent of public instruct ion and discuss among themselves questions pertaining to their pro fession. It is a, kind of Bchool or institute originated and maintained by the teachers themselves and among those taking part are some of the leading instructors of the Willamette' valley.
