Leap Year Not Yet Ended And
Brigham Youngr Among
Those Not Taken
Brigham Young of the Airlie
neighborhood was in town the
atter part of the week. It proD-
ably ia not too late in leap year1 to
announce to maidens of rolx
county that Brigham is still an un-
gathered rose on the bush of lonely
bachelorhood. Brigham naa a
place four miles from Airlie and is
prepared to care for a wife in rirsi
class rural style. .. ;. - ,
It is not altogether Mr. Young s
fault that he has not married be-.
fore this. Preparations we're once
on for his getting hitched b?s when
through ignorance or malicious
ness, some one circulated the re
port that Brigham ate dog. That
was slander. The only( foundation
for such a report was that a neigh
bor once gaye Brigham a lat aog
which he killed and rendered tip
for the grease, a very useful lubri
cant on the farm. The earnest
ness and simplicity of style in
narrating the incident will con
vince any one that there wsb no
truth in the report of the Air lie
farmer utilizing the dogs flesh as a
substitute for meat, yet it had the
effect to break up the match.
Formerly, when Brigham want
ed to come to Independence or
even go to Portland, he hitched a
span of horses to the running geer
of a wagon and rode the coupling
pole to the city. On his last trip,
i came by motor, tie walked
over the hills to Airlie, and hiding
his lantern in the bushes until his
return at night tried the modern
method of traveling on his last trip.
