It baa about 60 'acres of good, hop land. Mr. Groves is a painstaking hop grower and will give his attention to the raising of hope on his newly acquired place. He has sold his Dallas property. He arrived in Independence in time to vote. The funeral of Mist. Alta Savage wh9 died in this city Friday morn ing took place in Salem Sunday at the Presbyterian church at : 10:30 A. M. Floyd Williams the sensational football high jumper of the Blue Ribbon county, came down from Corvallia Saturday to remain un til after the election. On account of the death of Miss Alta Savage, tae reception wnicn was to be given Saturday evening to the O. S. N. S. foot-ball team by the Normal girls, has been post poned. ' No teacher has been selected to take the place recently made va- cant by the death of Miss Savage Miss Ann Mann of Portland is one among others being considered by the school board. J. P. Fryer shipped a car load of eheep to Portland today. W. W. Percival shipped a car load last week and will ship out two , car loads, one of sheep and one of hogs. Thursday of this week. Sbe is now; able, to take small quaniliee of food, and it is hoped that she may be so far re covered as to be moved to her home at Clem in a week oj 10 day. ' For a time her condition was so serious that' there .was question as to whether or not sbe would recover. A sheet had to be used ia changing her position in bed. In the acci dent, she was. thrown, from the bug gy and struck violently . agaiast telephone pole while the boree was in, full .flight, . .The escape of - either Miss Danneman or her companion at all. is described in a letter to Mrs. Danneman in this city from her husband as miraculous.
