Mias Myrtle Shafer is visiting her sister Mr?. Oosteryer in Port land. Glenn Ireland and Clarence Wagoner were up from Portland overSundav. Mrs. C. E.Tedrow is visiting hr sister Mrs. Claude Williams at Mc Minnville. Mark Baker who has been at Burton's hop yard returned to Staf ford Saturday. Homer Link lias returned from a summer's stay on his claim in Klamath county. Mrs. John Bacon and son, Johu, of Grants Pass are vtsiting at the home of Sam GofF. Wayne Mulkey of Philomath vis ited his sister Mrs. Thos. Fennell, the first ot the week. Mr. and Mrs. James Helmick, of the Luckiamute are visiting in the state of Washington. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Wagoner ex pect to leave soon for Portland, where they expect to spend a part of the winter. Mrs. R. M. Humphrey of Vale, Ore. arrived, from Newport Satur day and spent Sunday in Indepen dence. Mr. and Mrs. V. F. Holbrook, who have been visiting Mrs. Morgan returned to their home m Lexington, Ore. Wednesday. Mrs. M.T. Creasy and son Gould, left Sunday for an extended visit in the east. While gone they will visit relatives in Chicago, Rock Island and St. Louis. ' Mrs. Lydia Turner who has been visiting at the home of T. B. Hunt ley returned to Portland Saturday. Mrs. Turner waB accompanied bv Mrs. Minnie Burnett and T. B. Huntley. A horse owned by James Taylor was taken sick on the btreet Friday and died Saturday. Fred Oberer and others purchased the animal and did all in their power to save its life but failed. , County School Superintendent Starr was in town Friday in the interest of a school Journal he pro poses to launch shortly. Like many others, the superintendent has hop poison. Dr. M. G. McCorkle, formerly known here, has been falsely ac cused of causing the death of P. J. Delahanty at Benson, Ariz, accord ing to expert testimony of San Francisco chemists. Dr. McCorkle is now on the Sound and has been quite ill. Mrs. Lillie Garrdied at the home of her parents. Mr. and ,Mrs. Geo. DeBord at 5 o'clock Sunday after noon. She had been an invalid since spring. She leaves avbcy, Clifford 8 years old. James Garr, her husband died in Klondike seven years ago. Burial in the Odd Fellows cemetery today. s James Haight of Oakville, la., has been in Oregon four weeks and gained just 30 pounds. At the eame rate of increase tor a year, he will be the biggest man in Ore gon. Mr. Haight is ft guest of James Morgan, they formerly be ing neighbors back in Iowa. En joying good health and the hospi tality of prosperous westerners, Mr. Haight is well pleased with Oregon. He has a farm on which be can realize 1100 an acre in Iowa and there is ft strong probability that he will sell and locate here.
