Adkins leaves this week, for a hunting trip to Lake Creek. Miss Eva Wash, of Dallas, will attend the normal here this winter. I Luther Ground did some sur veying near Dallas the first of the week. Miss Alma Bowman, of Hills boro.. arrived Monday for the school year. Miss Wills and Miss Marie Ferry are familar figures among the students this year. President Ressler was calldd to Eugene Tuesday, to attend the funeral of Mr. Orton. Mr. Denny was called to his old home at Bethel last week, by the death of his father. Mrs. Frank Booth by is selling her household goods prepara tory to leaving for San Fran cisco. Mrs. II. A. Adkins and grand children, Herbert and Helen, re turned from Lane county last Friday. " Mrs. J. II. Handsaker left Tuesday for her home in Eu gene, after a three weeks' visit with her parents here. Mrs. Jennie Leeh died at her borne at Falls Cit about two weeks ago. She had many friends here, who will be grieved to learn of her death. The students' re-union Tues day evening was largely attend ed. A much larger number of students is in attendance at the opening of the school year than for some time. The num ber enrolled is about 165, and the girls are delighted . over the fi. Edith and Georgia Huusaker returned to their home at Turn er last week. Robt. Orr came in Sunday and will work for E. N. Cook in his fruit dryer. Mrs. Conawny, of Portland, was visiting W. E. Clark and familv last week. The daughters of I. A. Allen will attend the Dallas college again this winter. Mrs. M. Myers has returned from a season's run as cook with a threshing machine. Willis Simonton and bride came Saturday from The Dalles to visit over Sunday. Mrs. N. S. Burch and Master Linn Nesmith went to Fortland Friday, for a short stay. A. Longnecker, wife and small cirls made $41.00 in four days at Holmes' yard last week. Mrs. G. A. Washburn and children, who- were visiting here, went to Portland Friday. Aurelia Burch went to Eu gene Friday, to resume her studies again at the university. John Koser and John Simon ton went to the former's claim Tuesday morning, for a few days. J. J. Homer McDaniel, or Portland, who works for the Sigler Mill ing Co., was up helping in the warehouse1 at Derry a few days Inst week. J. W. Fetzer, who lost his watch last week whilo return ing from Salem, has found it. It was picked up by S. K. Crow ley, of Crowley. ANTIOCH. Mr Johnson finished picking hops the latter part of the week. Fishbacks are through pick ing hops and have come home. Winfred Wheelock is in Yam hill county, operating a hop press. William Steprow is out from Alsea, picking hops for John Yenter. Rida Chamberlain, of Falls City, is taking music lesions un der Mrs. Johnson. Charlie Brooks and wife, of Troutdale, are visiting his moth er, Mrs. Jacob Babb. Miss Alice McDougil, of Dal las, has been employed to teach our full term of sch ool. Mrs. A. B. Ohms has disposed of her prune crop to nn Inde pendence firm tor ;0 cents a bushel!
