In the table Below is a r-rac-, ticul demonstration of what may . bo achieved by a farmer with a small number of cows. The arty in question is Mr E Yarns. of Amity, Ore., who, one year ago with a herd ot five cows and no previous experience, com menced shipping cream to the ndepeudence Creamery. It will be noted that for the first seven months there were at no time more than five cows. La ter Mr. Yarns added three cows, making the average number milked . for .the year 5f. The total income for butter fat at the creamery was $438.00, or an average of $77.29 per cow. Add to this $12.00 for skim milk and $5.00 for the calf, which is a conservative statement, and it brings the returns for each cow uplo $94.29 for the year. Mr. Yarns naturally feels a pride in his first year's work in the dairy business, and with the knowl edge already gained, and better preparation and system for the coming year, hopes to make even a better showing than the present one. It would be well for farmers to ponder over these figures, for if one man with no experience and little preparation can make this business so profitable, can not others? ilead details of his herd's performance. July, 5 cows, fzl.ob. August, 4 cows, $19.85. September, 4 cows 25.93. October, 5 cows, $35.55. November, 5 cows, $34.53. December, 4, cows. $35.62. January, 5 cows, 30.64. February, 6 cows, $42.50. March, 7 cows, $54.23. April, 8 cows, $50.31.' May, S eows, $46.25. June, 7 cows, $40.91, FARMERS' LINE. A Partial List of Subscribers of the Kural Telephone Line. Mrs. Grace E. Hall, for several months our capable representative at BuenaVista.hftA been called to me editorial staff of Corvaliis Gazette, a position which Mrs. Hall is emi nently fitted to occupy. During the past three correspondent s con test of the Entekvkise Mrs. Hall has secured first position twice by large majorities. The .Gazette is to be congratulated upon having as m.mW of its editorial stall' one of such ability as Mrs. Hall. We havo been union u iouj municate with Mrs. Hall since learning of this news, and it may be she will find it impossible to ac cept the position, but for tbe good of the Gazette may she find the time to act in that capacity. We have made endeavors to se cure a complete list of the sub scribers to the rural telephone line rurning into Monmouth. We have applied for the desired infor mation of the parties having it in charge, but without avail. One of the parties on the line, however, kindly gave us the toiiowmg names, but as the list is from mem ory it is probably incomplete: J. J. Thurston, J. A. ltbrow, m.. Staats, W. E. Willisms, A. R.
