opera hor.se, and under the aus-
uices of Clover L; at' Rbekah
lodg, of this city, a good-sized
audience was delightfully enter
tained by Uev. G. Howard Osborne,
B. A., in illustrated song and story.
To Bay the least, Mr. Osborno has
a marvelous voice. When a mere
boy he sang regularly at the great
London cathedral, and the odicials
of that great religious organization
were so impressed with his vocal
powers that they placed him at
their expense under the ablest
vocal instructors. His ' rendition
on the above occasion of "The
Holy City," "Rocked in the Cradle
of the Deep," "By the Lakes of Old
Kilarney." etc., all illustrated by
the finest works of art is deserving
of the most unstinted encomiums.
He also demonstrates himself to be
a lecturer of eloquence and breadth
of thought and with the ability to
keep d.ia audience well entertained
at all times. We hear onall sides

tainment and have yet to hear the

"The law authorizing the publi
cation of the records of the Oregon
volunteers in the Spanish war and
Philippine insurrection prescribes
that the copies shall be distributed
in such manner as the governor
may direct. Of the five hundred
copies provided for in tht act Gov
ernor Geer has- directed that one
copy be presented to each of the
S-'M officers, sergeants and corporals
of the Second Oregon Volunteer
Infantry and of Batteries "A" and
"li," Oregon Volunteer Light Ar
tillery, and to the wife, father or
mother of each of the 64 members
of the Second Oregon, who lost
their lives while in the service,
provided they apply to the Ad-
ljutant General before May 1, 1!H)3.
Copies not deliverod in person will
be forwarded 4o applicants entitled
to them, express charges to be col
lected on delivery. The method of
distribution of such volumes us
may remain on hand May 1, I00-1,
