The Fever Increasing.
The hop fever, which waxed
higher and higher 'this fall as the
price crawled steadily upward,
shows no sign of abatement in IV! k

Growers who realized gilt edged
prices for their product this season
are planning on increasing the
acreage ot their yards and much
care and work will be expended to
make the crop next year all that
any one could wish it to be in
quality as well as in quantity. As
in all other branches of labor the
best hops bring the best prices and
an effort will be inade by local
growers to bring their hops to as
high a state of perfection as possi
ble next year. Along with these
facts conies a query as to why so
many owners are renting their
yards, when experienced hep men
eo strongly declare that prices are
sure to remain high at least until
next year's crop shall have been
marketed.

establishing American indepen
dence. Anv male descendant of

sion into the society. Its objects
are purely patriotic and historical.
One of them is to stimulate inter
est in the history of the American
Revolution and loyalty to its prin
ciples. F'r this purpose the so
ciety offers three prizes, of f2o. $15
and -f 10 respectively, for the best
essay writen by any student in any
public school in Oregon on any
one of the following four subject":
'The Rattle of hunker Hill."
"The Burgovne Campaign." "The
Trf-soi i of Benedict Arnold." 'Th
Partisan Warfare in the Carolina;
Marion. Sumpter and Pickens."
Eay9 are limited in length to
twenty-five hundred words; must
be written on legal cap on one side
of th paper in the student's own
handwriting and must be accom
panied by the certificate of the
principal of the school attended by
the author, to the effect that the
