tire community and his going is a
source of general regret.

For the Next Six Week.
The Independence band rendered
on last Saturday evening an open
air concert of considerable merit.
The true excellence of the program
can receive no higher testimony
than that the band members were
immediately besieged with numei
0U8 requests for similar concerts in
the future.
The boys had a number of new
selections, which were rendered in
a manner to receive the warmest
commendations.
D. Calbreath, president of the
Water & Light Company, im
mediately started a movement
to raise funds to make the Satur
day evening concert a feature for
the summer, and with whomsoever
be conversed they heartily ac
quiesced in the movement. It is
proposed to raise among our citi
zens a weekly contribution of 25
cents an individual, and .this
in their treasury with -which to
buy instruments. Mr. Calbreath
very generously donated 32-candie
power lamps, and the boys will be
gin their concert at 8 o'clock in the
evening and give an entertainment
lasting an hour and a quarter. An
urgent request is extended to all
to assist in the movement.
A feature of Saturday evening
was the large crowd in town, many
from Monmouth and the country
being noticed. All were highly
pleased with the entertainment.

condition being entirely clear of
vermin and showing a remarkably
vigorous growth.
The vines have about reached
mature size and are heavily loaded
with blossom buds, which are in a
seasonable stage of development.
The lateral branches are large,
thrifty and filled to the end with
opening buds a condition which
assures a heavy yield should favor
able weather continue during the .

The favorable outlook for a heavy
yield, with market conditions in-
dicatina the stability of present
values gives promise of handsome
returns.
