at the unveiling of the late J. E.
Boyd, at Dallas, on Sunday, at 3
p. m. Mr. Boyd was a jeweler at
Monmouth, whose many friends
there and here will be present to
pay fitting tribute to his memory.
Dick Babbitt's party in honor of
his sixth birthday was the event
of the season. It occurred Tues
day on the pleasant lawn of Mrs.
Babbitt's home. He was permitted
to'invite just whom he pleased, and
the result was that most of the
little folks in town were there, and
a few of his special friends among
the older people. These included
Dr. Brown, Thos. Fer,nell, Marshal
A J. Tupper and Rev. E. J. Thomp
son. Mrs. Babbitt, with her sister
and mother, entertained the large

delicious refreshments. Dur-
ing the time Mr. McCaleb took a
photograph of the beautiful picture
the children made as they were
filled full of fun, candy, cake and
ice cream and happiness.

teurs at Monmouth who are pre
paring "The Rivals" for presenta
tion next Saturday evening at the
Normal chapel, are getting in fin I
class form, and will beat the record
for fine theatricals in this county.

sive, though not conducive to a
serious frame of mind. But his

The diflerent parts have all been
well provided for, and all those
who are fortunate enough to
see the play will come away well
repaid and better pleased, if all
we hear be true. The costumes
are elegant, the auditorium all that
could be desired and the play well
the play takes second rank to none.
Children's Day wos observed at
the Presbyterian church in this
city last Sabbath with appropriate
services. A very interesting pro
gram was giyen by the Sunday
school. It consisted" of songs,
readings and recitations. The of
ferings of the children exceeded
five dollars. There were six bap
tisms and five accessions to the
church membership.
It is intended to unveil the
monument over the grave of the
late E. F. Hutchens on next
Sunday at the same time of the
Boyd unveiling if arrangements
can he perfected.
Mrs. Townsend, of Dallas, is
the new Grand Worthy Matron,
of the Eastern Star, for Oregon.
