The Grange.
The Oregon Htat Grange will
meet at the capilol, in Salem, next
Tuesday. (lov. Geer will deliver
the address ot welcome, and Judge
IIoU tho reajioufe.
The first grange has organized
in Oregon on Sept 21, 1873, at Sa
lem. Daniel Clark was the firet
master, W. M. Powers was assistant
steward, Wm Cyrus overseer, J. H.
Smith secretary, Mrs. Powers Po
mona and Mrs. Cyrus, Ceres. The
next session was held at Salem,
tho third at Portland, the fourth
at Albany when Wrn Cryug. was
elected master, the fifth at Salem,
when A. It. Shipley, was elected
master Salem was then selected
as the permanent place and the
grange met thereuntil 1891. Judge
Boise was elected master of the
grange 1880 and was re-elected for
several years. A. Luelhng was
overseer in 1884. In 1883 II. E.
Hayes was elected master, S. A.
Dawson vs G. K. and Mrs. Daw
son C. Mr. Hayes was re-elected.
Among the charter members now
living are W. M. Powers. Mrs, M. A.
Powers, Martin Miller and F. S.
Powell.
