John Kan, an old pioneer and
resident of West McTimmonds
Valley, died at his home August
15, aged 81 years. The funeral
services were conducted by Rv.
Rosser at the house and the re
mains laid to rest in the Mont
gomery cemetery. August 16. A
wife and several children survive
him.
Win. Lewis, wife and daughter,
Leota, are home from Newport.
They heard of, the illness of their
son-in-law, John Brinkley, in Pen
dleton, with smallpox, so came
home post haste.' They are afraid
their daughter now has- the disease,
as she was to have started home
on a visit on the 14th inst, but has
not been heard from.

Rev. Kane, former pastor of the
Christian church at this place,
while working with a thresher, had
the misfortune to have his little
finger badly lacerated while at
tempting to put on a belt. It has
since been found , necessary to have
the finger amputated.
