Richardson, complimenting Mrs. Josie Stewart, who is soon to leave Salem to take charge of a sororiety house at the Oregon Agricultural college. Mrs. Gray had as guests 14 of her girl hood friends, all of Salem, and time was turned "backward to those good old days for the evening. Guests brought pictures taken when they (were in their teens. Ye olden time dance with all of the settings the fiddler, the caller, and then the swing ing of your partner or the other fellow's partner formed a very de lightful diversion, and brougb forth much hilarity. As near as possible the dining table appeared as of 35 years ago. Plates were turned over; goblets, not tumb lers, were likewise reversed; the cen terpiece was a high glass cakestand holding an uncut cake, and the guests were required to tuck the napkin under their chin. The guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Boise, Mr. and Mrs. John H. McNary. Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Meyers, Miss Margaret Cosper, Frank Loveil, Dr Willis "Morse. , Tin. Brackebury of Lebanon visi ted the Normal lust Friday, Local friends of Miss Macphemou will be glad to learn that she is re covering from a recent operation, which she underwent n a Portland hospital. Members of the class in dramatic art are planning to produce "Thu Silver Thread", a play for children, with local children in the cast They have, therefore hnd actual practical experience in training real children, an experience which Is bound to be valuable n the future. Misa Brainerd is spending her va cation at the Hoerlein ranch at Hood River. A motion picture made from W'i! ham Brady's well-known play "Way Down East" will be shown in the chapel next Friday evening. "Way Down East" has been an American classic for half a century, but has only comparatively recently been made into a picture. It is advertised as David W. Griffith's greatest pic ture and is said to excell in dramatic quality and beauty any of the big pictures which -have made him famous. J. E. Enlund, a graduate of the Normal school and of the University of Oregon, was greeting old friends in the faculty and student body last Saturday. Senator John Gill of Portlund will speak at the chapel hour next Mon day morning beginning at 9:30. Mr. Gill will take as his subject "Indian Life n the Columbia. He is a man who is well informed and is, more over, an interesting speaker. A cor dial invitation is extended to towns people to attend this speech. Professor J. B. Horner of 0. A. C. spoke to the Normal students on Thursday morning at the chapel hour on Oregon history. Clay Guthridge and son, William, of Ealls City passed over the Heights Wednesday afternoon. John Doughtery of Monmouth was seen in this vicinity Tuesday. Ed.
