WHITE, LOCAL MANAGER In the basket ball game played in this city Saturday evening between Dallas College and a Chemawa team the home team won by a score of 2'J to 21. Our boys have not lost a game this season Coasting has been the attractive features here during the past week. Dr. B. F. Butler of Condon, has purchased the dental office of Dr. S. T. Donohue, and will take charge In a few days. Dallas is always the coldest place In Oregon. Last week the mercury registered 10 above zero. It Is a little better now, however. The Oregon Electric Co. has in mind greater Improvements In. their plant than ever have been made and we will soon get better service. The Polk County spelling contest recently started by County School Superintendent H. C. Seymour, has been very successful. The plan is a new one, but In course of time the pu plls of Polk County will be able to spell better than those of any other county in the state. It has aroused much Interest among the educational .leaders of the state, and it is hoped that the same plan will be ad opted in other counties. The Super intendent has made only one change He has decided to give a certificate o every grade in the county having an avergae of 95 per cent. The pur pose of this is to give encouragement to all the grades in the county who might not be successful in win ning In the contest. MONMOUTH Mr. Bolden has opened a feed store here.
