CONVENTION
The twenty-seventh annual conven
tlon of the VV. C. T. U. waa held in
Salem from the 11th to the 14th ot
October. The convention was presld
d over by Mrs. Ada Wallace Unruh
the state president, assisted by th
corps of officers. I
Space forbids a lengthy report of
this great convention which was con
sidered the best In the oxUtenee of
the W. C. T. U. In Oregon. To be
brief:
The president's annual address was
given ou. the opening day in which
she dwelt on the campaign for "Ore
gon Dry;" also on social purity, the
white slave traffic, etc. On Tuesday
evening Supt. Powers of Salem gave
an Interesting address on temperance
and was succeeded by Dr. Fletcher
Homan. of Willamette University who
gave an able address, showing that
temperance was taught in the college
and spoke of strong temperance ad
vocates as a result of their college
education.
He was followed by Mr. Pemberton
of the SYlends" church who thought
that ministers ought to identify them

was very difficult to say whether
they were socialists, democrats, re
publicans, or what they were.

We trust the time 13 not far distant

The county presidents then followe
with one-minute speeches, among
whom Mrs. Wilohart from The Dalles
spoke of the work in her field; Mrs.
Mallet of Multnomah county gave a
brief account of the strenuous work
in Portland: Mrs. Dunsmore of Polk
county dwelt on the honor conferred
by our Saviour on woman that she Is
God's finished creation and master
piece, commissioned to tell of the Mes
siahship, the good news of the Ris
en Saviour.
