JOHN DEERE BUGG.'ES ARE ALU RIGHT NEW PHONE LINE . A short time ago It was announced through the columns of the Enter prise that the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. would In a short time rebuild their exchanges at Indepen dence and Monmouth. Mr. Shenefield, the local manager, sa.,3 ti.ai several toUi i v. i-, cable and other material, aiso se.eral car loads of poles have been receded here and that YV. S. Si.yder, one of the company's competent fareiaea who has just finished the rebuhuUs of the toll lines between here aad Salem, has his men at work here a..(i that work is progressing rapiuly on these new plants. When cmpleted the plants will stand second to none of their size. The old plants will be entirely re moved, new poles will replace the ones now in use, cables will replace the present wires and the very latest types of common battery switch boards and telephones will give ser vice in place of the present equip ment. All of the houses will be re wired so that nothing but the best will be In evidence when the work Is completed and the new plant placed In service. These improvements by the tele phone company are In line with the general spirit of progressiveness now In evidence In Indepe.idence, such as the laying of the sewer system by the city of Independence, the building of our high school and the erection of handsome business blocks and resi dences by local capital and it should be gratifying to the people of Inde pendence to have the. telephone pe;; pie show their faith in Independent in such a substantial manner. T( le phone appliances are very expensive and the fact that such complete, and up to date plants are to be Installed here shows that Independence is looked upon as one of the substantia: valley towns by the telephone people. There will be on display at the C Street Millinery store Saturday and Monday the fall patterns and all the new novelties. The best line I have ever shown. A first class trimmer will be In charge.
