Resolved, that we indorse the wise,
patriotic and progressive administra
tion of President Taft, and that we
rejoice in the fact that the pledges
made by the Republican party in its
National platform of 1908 have been
faithfully kept.
"Resolved, 'that we believe in the
rigid enforcement of the anti-trust
legislation now on the statute books,
and in the enactment of such further
laws along the same line as may be
necessary to safeguard and protect
at all times the interest of the con
sumers of manufactured products.
Resolved, that we demand of our
officials, both county and state, the
most rigid economy consistent with a
progressive administration of the pub
lic business.
"Resolved, that we demand of the
State Legislature an economical ex
penditure of the public funds; the
abolition of any unnecessary boards
or commissions, and that we especial
ly demand of our representatives in
that body that they oppose with their
votes and influence the appointment
of clerks for the less important legis
lative committees.
"Resolved, that we recognize in the
Improvement 0f our public roads and
highways the greatest factor in the
upbuilding of the country, socially
and industrially; that we demand a
continuation of the betterment of our
county roads as rapidly as the finan
cial condition of the county will per
mit. I "Resolved, that we favor an ap
propriation by the legislature to re
imburse the Indian War veterans for
horses and supplies furnished by
them for use in the Yakima Indian
War and that we ask Congress to
place these veterans on an equality
with the veterans of other wars in
the matter of pensions.
"Resolved, that it is the policy of
the Republican party to nominate on
ly the very best men available for
the various offices of public trust;
that we recommend to the favorable
consideration of the people of Polk
county the candidates indorsed by
this assembly, and that we pledge to
such candidates our loyal and enthu
siastic support."

cause early in life they had the res
ponsibility of home thrust upon them.
I am sure that the motto "Everybody
Helps," is a good one.
But one says, "How can It be
brought about? How can the school
give credit for industrial work done
at home?" This may be accomplished
by printed slips asking the homes to
take account of the work that the
child does at home under the instruc
tion of the home, and explaining that,
credit wiii be given this work on the
school record. These slips must be pre
pared for children according to age
so that the child will not be asked to
do too much, for it must be clearly
recognized that children must have
time for real play. The required tasks
must not be too arduous, yet they
must be real tasks. They must not
be tasks that will put extra work on
parents except in the matter of In
struction and observation. They may
well call for the care of animals, and
should include garden work for both
boys and girls. Credit in school for
home industrial work (with the par
ents' consent) should count as much
as any one study in school .
