April 19. 1910. In honor of the early departure or suBie uu comb The guests assembled at Mr. Mose man'a residence and after waiting up- on some of the late comers until 8:30 o'clock, went to Mr. Kurre's, where Susie was entertaining Frieda Mose- man for the last evening before leav Ing. . She was totally surprised to see fourteen guesta come walking In through the kitchen; but seeing the fun she greeted each cordially and escorted them to the parlor where games were soon begun. After each had enjoyed a hearty laugh at playing "Shaking Quaker," the game,"The Hub of the 1'nlverse," was Introduced. In this, Ella Chase received first prize and Velma Heff ley the booby. The next game was a yawning contest. Mrs. Kurre, act ing as Judge, awarded the prize to Doris Herren, she being the orie who gave the sleepiest yawn without a suspicion of a smile. Several other short games were then played, and partners for lunch were chosen by playing "The Filling of Noah's Ark". ThoBH nresent were: Susie Whit- comb, Frieda Moseman, Doris Herren, Velma and Florence Heffley, Gladys Putnam, Ella Chase, Claudia Byers, Lee Whltcomb, Jerome Reese, Wll lard Reeves, Ranlo Burkhead, Dwight nniaoniierrv Ivan Wood and Fred Smith. At a late hour, after light refresh ments had been served, the guests departed, all having spent a very en joyable evening. Lecture Was Pleasing Event The lecture delivered by Dr. H. Charles Dunsmore at the opera house last Monday night was an event of much Interest to the, intellectual ele ment of the city. Dr. Dunsmore hand led the story of "Jean Valjean" in a masterlv manner, considering the dis advantage one must necessarily be at In dealing with so exhaustive a sub nI.t ,-. inu Wfnrn The book re jjiw i. . ... . - reg a stason of 'lectures to do it j anything like justice, however, his i a(iience was delighted with his pres- ! entation of the story. Those who may not iiave been fortunate enough to have had previous knowledge of the great masterpiece took home with them a realistic picture of the char acters and something of the wonder ful pathos in which Victor Hugo so ingeniously wrapped the story. The musical numbers, in which was represented some of the leading lo cal talent of the city, were much en joyed. In all it was a delightful event and one all may . well hope to have repeated.
