D. -Coates. The basket ball game between Monmouth high scaeol and Corvallis tgh school resulted in a score of 35 to 19 In favor of the home team. Hugh Guthrie and wife spent Christ mas with Mr. Guthrie's parents at Monmouth, returning to his work the following day. Peter Springer sold his fine team of horses to Skipton brothers of Sa lem for five hundred dollars and toought a team of young horses of Robert Lowe for three hundred and seventy-five dollars. Lester Lindsay has returned to his studies at Portland after a few days spent in Monmouth. Dell Butler is home from McMinn Tille. The home of J. B. V. HOLD ANNUAL BANQUET. On Monday evening, Lyon Lodge, No. 29, A. F. & A. M. of Indepen dence celebrated the fiftieth anniver sary of its organization with appro priate ceremonies. About 100 people were present at the lodge rooms, nativ members of Lyon lodge, and their friends, also a number of the ladies of the order oi me u Star, auxiliary to the masonic fra ternity. Dr. 0. D. Batler presided, and addresses wee made by Mr. J. B. V. Butler of Monmoutk, Judge Bur nett of Salem and Dr. Dunsmore of Calvary Presbyterian church. A sumptuous banquet was served in "Fritz's" best style, after which some time was spent in games ana sociu conversation. Lyon lodge is In a pros perous condition, owning their prop erty, a two-story brick building with two stores, and out of debt. On Sat urday evening, officers were electee for next year as follows: W. M., H. W. Dickinson; S. W., P. M. Kirk land; J. W., Hank Mattison; Secre tary, Claire Irvine; Treasurer, H. Hirschberg. Telephone Girls Were Remembered The local employees of the Pacific States Telephone Company at this place have been showered with pres ents this Christmas.
