A girls' bask-1 ball club has hem organized in the high school. We ex pect to have a gam- between the hiyh school girls and teachers n- V week. Watch for posters. Teachers' institute will be held in Dallas the 8, 9 and 10 of December. Our teachers will all go and perhaps a few of the students. The school census has been com pleted and all children not in school who are of proper age will be report ed to the truancy officer. Our enum eration has been greatly increased over last year. Make your friends a Christmas present of a school pennant. The pennants are on sale in the stores down town. ON HAPPINESS Life, after all, is not so bad as we like to fancy- it. I venture to say if most of us began our evening prayer by thanking the Lord for all his ben efits to us, we should fall asleep long before we got to to the grievance with which we usually induce insom nia. The world is not a bed of roses. The path we must tread is often hard, clogged with overwhelming anx ieties, cares, and worries that seem to bow earthward even the idealist's gaze. But when our shoulders are bent low we can at least, get some happiness out of life by trying to love the burden we bear, like the little Scotch girl whom some one met stag gering along the country road with a baby in her arms. "Can I help you?" the stranger aFked. "The child seems so heavy for you." The little girl looked up and with an expression of passionate tender ness said.' "He's nae heavy. He's me broth er!" Mrs. John Van Vorst in December Lippincott's. Another Practical Lesson. In telling a Homestead represent ative about the success he has had with his milk cows, L. W. Frymire, who lives near Rickreall, in Polk county, Oregon, says his six cows have brought him in about $422 so far this year. He has kept close rec ord of what the cows have produced. The cream used by his family was valued at $.18 and the butter $30 and his cream checks for the year aggre gate $250. He sold four heifer calves at $15 each, and two veal calves at $7 each, and the valuation placed on the skim milk is $30. H paid $150 for food and HT for pturo.
