SALEM;1 OREGON I
Base Ball Notes.
One week from next Sunday the
Independence boys play the Dallas
team at Dallas, and the following
Sunday the Dallas boys will play a
return game on the home grounds.
There being quite a rivalry between
the two clubs you can look for one
of the best games of ball of the sea
son. George Conkey makes a good um
pire. Read up a little, George.
Two new players have been signed
They will make their appearance next
Sunday. One of them is a pitcher of
some note.
Betting on the Salem-Independence
gflrne next Sunday is about even.
We would suggest that our boys
get out and practice a little more.
By doing this they will be able to
put a little more ginger and snap in
their playing.
The Blues have not been beaten
this season so far. Who will be the
first to clip their feathers for them?
Next Sunday the Blues play the
Slem Fairmounts on the home
grounds, the game being called at
2:30 p. m. The Fairmounts have the
championship of Salem, having de
feated the last year's team of the
Tri-City league team. The Salem boys
have chartered the Skinner launch
and will run an excursion from Salem
to the game. Word was received here
Wednesday that already fifty tickets
had been sold and the prospects are
favorable for a big crowd and a fast
game.
The Oak Point and Greenwood dis
trict school base ball teams played a
fast.- game, for boys,- on the .Green
wood grounds last Saturday. The
former club won by a score of 5
to 4.
The Independence high school ball
team again demonstrated their ability
as fast players Saturday by taking
the Dallas high school team into
camp by the score of 17 to 15.
