Cobb & Williams Will Be the Name
of New Firm.
G. A. Cobb and F. F. Williams of
Portland have been in Independence
for Bcveral days past taking over the
stock of the Reliable Mercantile Co.
which they bought during the last
ten days. Both Messrs. Cobb and
Williams are thorough business men
and will take active part in the up
building of the city of Independence,
Their store will be opened for busi
ness in a few days. The work of in
voicing was completed this week
The members of the retiring firm are
undecided as to what they will do In
the future. Their homes are in In
dependence and it is possible that
they will remain here.
The transfer of the property has
not been made up to this time but
there is no doubt that it will be
within a day or two.
Petition for Rehearing Argued.
B. F. Jones returned Monday from
Salem where he protected the inter
ests of Independence In the famous
case of Krebs Bros. vs. City of Inde
pendence. The case is well-known
here and it is not worth while to re
late it. Petition for rehearing was
argued before the supreme court last
week and the decision of the court
has not been rendered up to this
time.
