Dole Pomeroy was seriously hurt
last Saturday playing football. Th
game was between Portland Univer
sity and West Side High school. His
many friends in this city will trujc
that he may speedily recover.
A. Wing of Monmouth was in this
city Tuesday. Mr. Wing removed
this week, with his family to Port
land, where tiiey will spend the win
ter. He is one of the well known
farmers of Polk, cpunty and will be
jmuch missed,
Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Pettis of Mon
mouth are visiting the Needhams
and Wades in this city and vicinity.
Mr. Pettis has sold his property at
Monmouth and is looking for a home
elsewhere. He may decide to locate
here. Brownsville Times.
The fire department of Indepen
dence will give a dance in the opera
house on the night of Thanksgiving.
The dance will be for the benefit of
the company, the proceeds to go to
ward buying suits, etc. Indepen
dance orchestra will furnish the ma
eic.
"Hearts are trumps" for the season
with the club that met with Dr. and
Mrs. Butler on Wednesday evening.
Prizes for last winter's series were
awarded to P. M. Kirkland and Mrs.
Butler, who made the highest score,
while Mr. Messner and Mrs. Drexler
had the lowest score. Officers were
elected and committees appointed to
arrange for the needs of the club
which promises the most delightful
aeries of evenings for the winter.
Dr. Thomas Van Buren Embree of
Dallas. Polk county, a pioneer of
1844, went to Rufus, Sherman county,
last week to visit Thomas A. Fowler,
who became a citizen of the latter
county three years ago. They were
born near each other in Missouri in
the thirties, and grew up together as
children and school fellows. In 1S42
heir watys diverged, and they never
met until the tenth of this month in
this city, in a purely accidental way,
neither knowing that the other was

Rev. H. H. Farnum, pastor of the
United Evangelical church of Dallas,
was a pleasant caller on the Enter
prise Wednesday. Rev. Farnum is a
reformed newspaper man, but finds
an attraction about a printing office.

a few months ago, where he had

permanent home.
Cant. James P. Patrick, who has
been visiting in this city with his
son, C. C. Patrick, of the late First
State Bank, departed Monday for his
home at Des Moines. Iowa. Mr.
Patrick has fallen in love with Ore
gon and says that it Is possible that
he may decide to remove to this
state. He made many friends in In
dependence who regret that he can
not remain here.

Miss Meda Imogene Holman was
married to Mr. Edwin Jacobson at
their future home on the corner of
Clay and Jefferson streets, Wednes
day, November 11, at hiKh noon, the
Rev. M. P. Dixon of the Methodist
church officiating.
The bride was beautifully gowned
in white silk mull and duchess all-
over lace and carried a shower bouquet
of pink carnations. The rooms were
decorated for the occasion with
bride's roses, carnations and potted
plants. After the ceremony a fine
wedding dinner was served.
About thirty friends and relatives
were present at the ceremony and
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson were the re
cipients of many beautiful presents.
Both the bride and groom are well
known In this city. Mrs. Jacobson
is the youngest daughter of Justice
and Mrs. Hardy Holman and Mr. Ja
cobson is assistant agent at the S
P. depot and also owner of the Ja
cobson Transfer , Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson left on the
afternoon train for a visit In Portland
and the Sound cities. They will be
at home to their friends after Novem

The Albany Apple Fair occupied
the center of the stage In Oregon ac
tivities last week. Albany gave
Portland, Eugone and Salem an ob
ject lesson in entertaining that It will
take these cities a long time to equal.
The town is growing and building
hard surface pavements, while apples
shown were equal to the best.
Marlon and Polk counties were
winners of the best prizes at the
Apple Fair. The beautiful display
made by these two counties are now
to be seen in Salem in the Windows
of Buren & Hamilton. There were
fifty-two boxes of apples In the dls
play of Marlon and Polk counties.
One box of these apples was sold for
$10. It will be seen that the exhibit
was worth five hundred dollars.
