A New Ttrm la lie gun
One might think that after a
two weeks' vacation and all the
good times that went with it, the
boys and girl of the training
school might be loath to return.
However, a I wulked just behind
the troupa of children who panned
me, I wu inlcrcMlcd In the frag
ment of conversation which I
overheard. "Are you glad to get
buck? "I aure are." "There's
nothing to do ut home." Or per
chance Rome one nay "Well, I'm
not, for there' that old algebra."
Still, in aplte of auch remark a
the lutler, I couldn't but think
that everyone wa ready to resume
the usual routine, for did it not
mean progress association and
cooperation with schoolmate in
the thing that were really worth
while? Martha Jane (8)

LINCOLN ROOM
This name is applied to one of the
most attractive rooms in our building.
So named, beeausn of memories asso
ciated with the name. It was this
room that several year ago chose
Abraham Lincoln as their greatest
hero. This room was actively inter
ested in tho sale of tickets for Mr.
Gentle's lecture, tho proceeds of
which amounting to over ninety
dollais was used to purchase the
Lincoln statue in the hall. It was
this room that purchased the wonder
ful flag buck of the statue, and also
through cntertairimenta given, raised
sufficient money to purchase the fine
photograph of St. Gauden's Lincoln
which hangs on tho wall before them.
The pupils of this room procured the
bust of Longfellow, which attractively
fills a corner. This room own the
flag that has been carried by our boys,
to both O. N. S. chapel and our own
assembly every week for more .han
eight year. Thi room has pride in
its apepaVanee. The desks after
ten years constant use are unscarred.
The curtains are kept evenly drawn,
and the blackboards free from dust.
We liko our room best of all. We
hope to find some way of supplying
new shades, awnings to keep out the
sun but to permit the curtains to be
raised all the timo. We also want
lockers, so we may take better care
of our belongings. We hope to have
all theso things, because we like to do
things for our room.
A NEW DEPARTMENT
A new department has been estab
lished in the training school. It is
called the "Relief Room." Thi room
serves a double purpose. For the
teacher, it affords an opportunity to
relieve an over crowded condition. No
'teacher with over fifty pupils, and

munu iii two giuues, can uu diikq in
dividual work with her pupils. Con
sequently, a part of the overflow of
the 3rd and 4th grades will be taken
care of in this room. The room is
also designed to give certain pupils,
who show unusual aptitude for cer
tain subjects, a chance to concentrate
too, it will afford others a chance to
their efforts along those lines. Then
receive more individual direction in
subjects hard for them. The room
in in charge of two efficient teachers
under the general supervision of the
methods department. E. E.
Once there was a very ambitiou
boy, Hi father was very discourag
ed. He had worked bard all his
life and still he and his family were
very poor. Hi mother waa an inval
id. She had been crippled in an
automobile accident. The father did
not work very much any more and it
seemed to be up to the boy to make a
living. He did the very best he
could.
One day the boy was driving across
the raidroad track on hi way to town
with his Ford which didn't seem to be
working as it should have been. He
waa busily engaged in operating the
machine just at the time the train wa
coming. The engineers were not
watching closely and the train hit the
automobile, pushing it - along the
track for about twenty feet. The
train stopped immediately. The auto
mobile was all in pieces lying on the
track. The boy was hurt very badly.
His right arm and left leg were
broken. He had a deep gash on his
forehead.
The engineer of the train had him
taken to a hospital where he received
all possible care. The next day an
agent for the railroad company came
to the hospital and asked the boy
what damage he was going to sue
for. The boy answered. "None at all."
The agent was greatly astonished and
asked him $hy not. The boy said
that he should have been watching out
as much as they. .
The president of the railroad com
pany came and talked to the boy.
The boy told him all about himself
and his family. The president
agreed to pay the boy . good salary
per week until be should be able to
work again. L. F.

IDLE THOUGHTS OF AN IDOL
FELLOW
DOWN ON THE BEACH
by Harold Santee
O! winds blow east and winds blow
west,
Dut I like ithe winds from the ocean
best.
I sail my kite to the sky so blue,
Clear up to the spot where the sun
shines through.
I want to be down where the sea gulls
are,
As they fly about by the old sand bar.
I want to hear the ocean's roar
When I romp with Sport along the
shore.
Down where the Rogue flows into the
sea, "
O! that is the place where I should be,
Those happy days I remember yet,
There isn't a one I'll ever forget.
