In answer to a protest of the Ameri
can Legion post at Klamath .Falls,
Secretary John' Barton Payne of the
Interior department, denied that the
government had contemplated leasing
20,000 acres of land on the, Klamath
reservation and 90,000 acres of land in
Big Marsh to the California-Oregon
Power company. Secretary Payne In
his letter, which was sent to Senator
Chamberlain, disclosed, however, that
a lease on 8620 acres had been made
to the power company by former Sec

by J. A, Churchill, state superintend

State Normal school at Monmouth will
conduct a 12 weeks' course during the

but have not finished an elementary
teachers' training courso, nor a course
at the normal school.

Oregon law are not a part ot tit

the water commissioners of The Dalles
have decided to run a tunnel through
the Bolld rock near Hansen's milt on
the east fork of Mill creek, about
16 miles from The Dalles. Bids for
the work will be called about June 6.
