Monmouth, who has been ap
pointed a lieutenant of U. S. en
gineers has received notice to re
port for a three month drilling
period at Vancouver Barracks
beginning Sept. 1.
There will be no preaching
sevice in the morning. Bible
School at the regular time.
In the evening the Christian
Endeavorers will have charge of
the evening service. A field
worker from Portland will speak.

city council set for Saturday
night was again adjourned to the
following Tuesday night for lack
of a quorum. Only the recorder
and Alderman Hampton were

A. Maybee, the Dallas well
driller, arrived in town with his
outfit Mon lay noon and set it up
on a lot which the city has bar
gained for on the north end of
W. J. Mulkey's residence prop
erty. Mr. Maybee had just com
pleted a well at Polk station and
made his haul to Monmouth from
that place. Mr. Maybee' ha3 an
outfit capable of going to any
depth and says he has never yet
got to a place where it wa3 im
possible for the .machine to go
any deeper. .

Mrs. E. A. Babb is back from
an eight week's visit with her
son at Hood River. While walking
along the highway there on her
way to church, she was picked
up by Mr. and Mrs. Billy Sunday
and given a ride in their auto,
which experience Mrs. Babb
cherishes as a notable one in her
life.
