PATRONIZE HOME LAUNDRY
The way to build up our town
is to patronize our home people
and make it possible for them to
improve, and to better prepare
for the business that they are
doiritf, so that they can the more
readily supply our needs. Hy
doiritf this we help each other,
and we are building up the busi
ness of home people.
In order to provide employ
ment for t hem-selves and for the
convenience of the public, H
Emerson and his sister have in
stituted a homo laundry in one
of U M. Smith's buildings, on
mam sweet, near ine posl-ollice,
where they purpose to do laundry
work for the public.
Monmouth needs an institution
of this nature and from small
beginnings larger ones grow.
They propose to do work that
will recommend them hitheir pa
trons which will invite a contin
uance of pat ronage. They solicit
your patronage, feeling confident
that they can do your work in a
manner that will not only please
you, but that will secure your
continued patronage.
A Record Cow
A family cow owned by the
Kerr Uros. in Gosper Valley gave
birth to twin calves last night.
This makes eight calves this
bossy has raised in four years.
She is twelve years old and has
always been the boys'. Her first
calf was born in 1001 and since
then she has been the mother of
14 calves. Not only does she
hold a record in producing prog
eny but averages five gallons of
milk a day for nine months.

Flames Destroy Bridge
Albany, Ore., Aug. 15. -Fire
destroyed a 4(50 foot bridge over
Mary's River, four miles west of
Philomath, on the Corvallis &
Eastern railroad.
Within an hour after the fire
was reported a train had left here
, carrying a piledriver and other
equipment and another'train had
left Yaquina western terminus of
the line, picking up workmen,
piling lumber available en route,
to rebuild the bridge.
Three Burned to Death and
One Injured
IllXNKli, Or., Aug. 15. -(Special.
) Three are dead and one
seriously injured as a result of a
fire at Morgan which started at
11 o'clock last night and de
stroyed property valued at $12,
000. The dead are:
Edna Phillips, age Z.
Arthur Phillips, age 21.
Win nil- Phillips, age 17.
Mrs. Heibert Phillips, mother,
had her spine broken when she
fell from a second-story window.
iobert Soerry w-as seriously
injured while figliting fire on the
roof of the warehouse.
Only three men were available
to give assistance and there was
no water.
Telegraph lines are down and
communication is difficult.
' The lire started at 11 o'clock
last night and destroyed a store,
dwelling, contents of warehouse,
one freight car and 2000 sacks of
wheat.
The origin of the fire is un
know n.
Mr. Phillips was asleep in the
barn. He usually slept out of
doors with his son, but the nighi
was cold and he went indoors.
The son slept in the house for
the night because of a slight ill
ness. Large piles of cord wood were
stored in the warehouse and
when the tire communicated they
burned fiercely and the etFurts of
the firelighters were unavailing.
Of the wheat in storage, 1GII0
sacks had just been put in by the
Walker estate, of lone. The re
mainder belonged to A. Wiles
and (I. Dennis of Morgan.
