The following sketch of two
well-known residents of Dallas,
accompanied by a reproduction
of their portraits, recently an-
peared in the Spokane Sportsman-
heview, published at Spokane,
Washington :
T. J. and J. M. Campbell, of
Dallas, are the oldest twins in
Oregon, and probably on thp
Pacific Coast. They were born '
in Morgan County, Illinois, Octo
ber 8, 1933, and were named in
honor of Presidents .ToffWsnn
and Madison. Their combined ;
weight at birth was six pounds, !
T. J. being 10 minutes the older
and weighing 2 1-4 pounds, and
J. M. 3 1-4 pounds. i
"In 1843 they moved with their
parents to Davis County, Iowa,
and in 1853 the family crossed ;
the plains by ox team to Oregon. I
It took them six months to make
the journey. They settled in
Polk County which has been i
their home ever since. !
"They were both married in
1860. Their children are all liv
ing. J. M. enlisted in Company
B, JCaptain Burch, First Regi
ment Mounted Oregon Volunteer
under Colonel Cornelius, and
served through the Yakima war.
They are both enjoying good

Wedding Anniversary.
A very pleasant party was held
at the residence of P. H. John
son, on Monday evening, April
17th. About 35 friends being
present, it being in , commemor
ation of the 21st anniversary of
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson's wedding
day.
The evening was. delightfully
spent in music, games and other
amusements. , Among the music
al treats were solos by Mrs. Allen
Clarke, F. Mclnturff and Harold
Davis. Special music was ren
dered by Mr. Seeley of Indepen
dence, violin; Mr. Prime of Mon
mouth Clarionet, and various
members of the party on the
Piano. After refreshments con
sisting of ice cream and cake
were served, a beautiful rocker
was presented by 0. A. Wolver
ton in behalf of the friends pres
ent. In response to which Mr.
Johnson arop and PYnrpsspd
their appreciation of the -friendship
shown them.
After all had extended con
gratulations and best wishes
to the family and expressed not
jniy with words but by their be
havior, that the occasion had
added one more joy to off set their
sorrows, the guests prepared to
depart
However Mr. and Mrs. John
son claim the real pleasure of the
ev'ent belongs to them.
A Friend.
Redland, Cal., April 14.
Frank W. Banson, former Gov
ernor of Oregon and for the part
five years Secretary of State of
Oregon, died here early this
morning. He came here last De
cember in poor health. After
staying a week at the Hotel Casa
Loma he took apartments with
his wife and servants. They
made few friends while here, liv
ing a retired and secluded life.
The funeral arrangements have
not been made.
Only Govenor Benson's im
mediate family was at the bed
side when death came. Yester
day it was thought Govenor Ben-

early this morning he took a turn
for the worse and died before a
pysician could reach his bedside.
His death was not unexpected.
The family practically had given
up hope for his recovery when
they arrivnd in Los Angeles last
winter. The body will be taken
back to Roseburg for interment.
Other than that, no funeral ar
rangements have been made, Mrs.
Benson being prostrated.

colt on exhibition at Dr. Ken
nard's animal hospital here is

this vicinty. The mother of the
unusual animal is owned by G.
W. Staggs.
The colt is the size of an aver
age dog and has a well formed
body up to its neck. Here the
resemblance to a young horse
ceases, for the most part, as the
nr oknll find nose are much
more like thore of a human being.

while the skull is nearly round
with but one eye, that being in
the center of the right side of the
ua The lnwer iaw resembles
that of a horse but the upper is
more like that of a human. The
only hair on the colt when born
was on the upper lip.
