FRIDAY, JUNE 11. 1909. j
Our editorial on the sectarian j
school question has brought forth
various comments some of which
are adverse. Among the latter
is a long drawn howl from the
Newberg Graphic, headed "A
Monmouth Growl." In this
brilliant effusion Monmouth is
referred to as "the little Polk j
county hamlet." We, among i
others, have contended for some
time that a large part of the bit-j
ter fight waged against the Nor- j
mals at the last session of the
legislature, was the direct result
of prejudice created by the sec
tarian schools of the state. This!
Normal m-Iiom!. Our contention
has always Wen that teachers are
born, not made by attending col
leges, Normal schools or Univer
sities, therefore it is no argument
against us that this man is so
employed. However our friend
from the foot washing village
! says nothing alout the great
i number of graduates that have
been turned out of that college,
that are NOT holding high sala
ried positions as a result of their
so graduating, nor will he say
anything about the great number
of graduates of the Monmouth
Normal that are holding the
highest positions of protit and
trust on the Coast. Nothing
narrow about this is there?
Further we want this ex
ponent of Ganderbone philoso
phy to understand that this pa
per is the mouthpiece of no one
but the editor and if he is a fool
he is an hone.-t one and is not a
fool for revenue only, which is
more than can be said of some
of his would-be tredtieers.
