O. S. N. S. Wins Game.
The Monmouth girls won from
the Salem girls Friday night on
the home court by the score of 22
to 7. It was considered by the
large crowd that attended the
game to be the fastest and clean
est game from faults that has
been played on the home court
for several years. The Salem
girls played a good hard game
but the speed and accurate handl
ing of the ball by the Monmouth
team and trick plays kept Salem
guessing. A nice reception was
given the visiting team which
was enjoyed by all invited. .
On February 6 the Monmouth
gi' ls will play the Astoria team at
that place, leaving here on Fri
day afternoon returning Sunday
evening. Miss Burt and Miss
Hixon secured four field baskets
apiece at forwards. Miss Laura
Craven secured one from the
guard position. The team also
secured four points on fouls.
Miss Hazel Donahue played the
cnter position and Miss Hazel
Kuykendall the other guard.
For the Boys and Girls.

A Correction.
By request of some of the
members of the Senior class and
in my opinion a correction is due
the Senior class for an article
published in last . week's Herald
concerning the Freshmen Ban
quet. Not only is this due the
Senior class, but the Freshmen
class as well.
The Senior class was not invit
ed to this banquet. It was en
tirely an individual matter by
which a few Seniors and alumni
were invited at a late hour by a
few Freshmen to this "feed."
These facts I have f rom the pres
ident of the Freshmen class.
It was quite an informal affair
and no one should feel slighted
who was not invited.

Pres. '09 class.
Independence Cannery
The directors of the Indepen
dence Cannery held a meeting
Tuesday at the Independence
National Bank which was a very
encouraging one for the stock
holders. The late litigation has
been settled and there is but a
small indebtedness now outstand
ing, which will be wiped out in a
few days. The directors are
negotiating with parties now to
lease the cannery and there is
every indication that it will be
operated the coming season. The
company has a fine building and
good equipment and is in every
way prepared to handle a large
amount of business. The editor
of this paper has a sort of father
ly interest in the cannery, from
the tact that ne was largely in
strumental in getting it started
while editing the Enterprise. We
believe in boosting our sister town
as well as at home, for it all helps
to bring people into our county
and the more here the more busi
ness will everybody have. How
ever we believe that Monmouth
is just a little the best of the
whole bunch of towns in the
county.
