    I Ship Perfect Fruit.
! The fruit inspector of King
county, Washington, is having
jj his troubles, as well as fruit in
spectors in Oregon. Recently
it became necessary for him to
burn several hundred boxes of
Washington fruit, becaftise, of
carelessness of the growers. One
shipment ot 2S0 boxes f rom Zillla,
Washington, was found to be
wormy a ml covered with fungis
growth, another shipment of f0
boxes from the same district was
found to be wormy, and a ship
ment of 50 boxes of peJtrs from
the Okanoo;aii country, on the
upper Columbia, was found to
be covered -with scale and was
wormy. This brought the total
up for the week l 700 boxes of
Washington fruit and 400 boxes
California fruit that had been
destroyed in thg Seattle market.
This has been practically the
; first of the Washington fruit
that has been destroyed, al
tl'ujdi more than 4500 boxes of
California fruit has been con-
I signed to the fiery furnace.
This sort of fruit shipments
f on the part the grower means
; only one thing for him, and
it
t tjhat is bankruptcy. With all

Agricultural colleges, it seems
such negligence is little Short of
criminal, as it not only ruins
the refutation of the grower
himself, but which is far more
reaching, ruins the reputation
for his district, which is doubt
less undeserved. One or two
growers in a district who persist
in sendinsT out fruit that, is enn-.
,
tinned upon the markt't soon
f bad reputation, and it thereof e
I becomes the guty df the growers
; of that district to see that the
state laws are properly enforced -
