will take up his studies in the

Mrs. Kate Baab was in from
the farm Saturday and paid this
office a pleasant call. She will
receive regular weekly visits from
the Herald for the coming year.
Miss Bertha Voget, of Salem,
was the guest of Miss Edna Strong
the fore part of the week. Miss
Voget leaves in a short time for
a visit with relatives in Germany.
Adrian Kemp, of Corvallis, was
here Wednesday for a visit with
A. H. Strong. He is running a
gasoline launch between Salem
and Independence during the
Fair.
Paul E. Baker, ex-business
manager of the Courier, has been
elected assistant principal of the
Junction City High School and
leaves this week to assume the
duties of his position.
The evaporator started up Mon
day and is running steadily on
prunes and pears. The cannery
has been flooded with the pears
the past week and had to turn
away several offers from outside
points.
