Personal Paragraphs Pertaining to People and Their Movements, Gleaned by Observer. Mrs. Wi. H. Robb spent Saturday and Sunday with her niece, Mrs. R C. Staats, at Independence. Dillard Elkine, deputy sheriff of Lane county, and a former Dallas boy, visited here Friday. Mr. El kins brought a prisoner to Salem for the penitentiary and took the op portunity to renew old friendships in "Dallas. Edward J. Hiracs, city engineer of Monmouth, left today for the neigh Iwring eity, where he will attend the council meeting tonight. Miss Gladys Loughary left Sunday for Portland, where she will enter business college. While in Portland she will stay at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Hadlcy. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bnird of Pennsylvania are visiting at the H. E. Muscott home. Mrs. Gladys Williams of Carlton is visiting the Misses Esther and Edith Anderson at the Hotel Gail. Fred Gooch and C. P. Helgerson registered at the Hotel Gail Friday night., L. L. Horsfall of Salem was in Dal las Friday. Miss Edith Anderson has been vis iting friends in Arlington for sever al days. H. C. Kurtz of Perrydale registered at the Hotel Gail Friday. Mrs. R. L. Baker of Amity spent Friday in the city. Supreme Judge George II. Burnett ( visited over the week-end with Judge and Mrs. Harry H. Belt. Mrs. E. W. Slants, II. S. Portwood and Oscar A. Haines of Monmouth spent Friday in Dallas. Mr. Haines, who has been a resident of Curry county for some time, intends to make his home in Alaska in the near future. A. H. Dennett of Crowley was in Dallas Saturday and favored the Ob server olllce with some of his original philosophy. Willis McDaniel of Rickreall spent the week-end in Dallas attending sun dry social functions. J. R. Thompson of Albany transact ed business in Dallas Saturday. Willie Staats of Airlie was in the city Saturday visiting with friends and relatives. Oscar Smith of Bridgeport was in the city Saturday visiting bt (the home of Mr. and Mm. I. F. Yoakum. Mrs. 0. M. Gardner visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Shaw and at the home of Rev. G. M. Brown last week. Mrs. Gardner returned to her home in Lake View, Oregon, the latter part of the week. Oscar Hayter went to McMinnville Sunday morning. Mr. Havter will appear for the defense in the Branson murder case. Mrs. Roy Pitzer was removed from the hospital Friday afternoon. Mrs. Manly Bovens was released Saturday from the Dallas hospital and was removed to the home of her aister, Mrs. A. N. Ncwbill. Ross Nelson and Mike Walker, two prominent business men of Indepen dence, were in Dallas on business Fri day. Forrest Martin attended a dance in Salem Thursday night of last week. Carl Morrison, a teacher at Perry dale, was in Dallas Saturday. Laird Woods visited in Salem Thursday night after the Willamette basketball game, returning Friday morning. Miss Frnnkie Crider, who is at tending the Sacred Heart Academy in Salem, spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pave ' Crider. Mrs. Charles Gregory visited with her parents in Willamina over Sun day. Fred Stinnett spent the week-end with friends in Portland. Miss Jennie Morris and Miss Vel ma Ray were in Salem Saturday. Ijenord Frink of Falls City was in town over Saturday. W. I. Reynolds, who is teaching school in Rickreall, spent Sunday with hi family here. Mth. R. G. Pykstra, -who recently nderwent an operation at the Salem sanitarium for appendicitis, returned to her home in Independence lat Friday. Robert S. Fisher, who has Wn in Burke, Idaho, for the past six months, will return to Dallas this week. Fred West and son Pan were in Salem Sunday. J. W. Tallman of Salem transacted business here during the latter part of last week. Mies Flora Koyea of Monmouth srW Friday in Pallas. George Roberts. Charles H. C. Wakeling and L. Wulferdingen, repre sentatives of the Oregon Art company are registered at the Imperial hotel. They expect to be in- Dallas tor sev eral weeks, introducing their new art productions. Mr. Roberts, who has bad many years' experience las e dancing instructor in Denver and the east, intends to conduct a dancing school here during his stay. Floyd D. Miller of Salt Creek regis tered at the Imperial hotel Saturday. Ben Werner was in Sdlem Sunday visiting with friends. Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Grant spent Sunday in Salem visiting with friends. Dave Riley was a Suiem visitor Sunday. Mrs. R. Owens of Portland spent the week-end with her daughter, Miss Bess Owens, in this city. Dr. B. H. McCallon, chairman of the school board, gave an interesting talk to the students of Dallas high school Monday morning at assembly. The subject of his talk was "btudent Ll- ficiency." F. E. Kersey went to Portland on business yesterday. Earl Cutler and Ted Berg were in Falls City Saturday evening visiting with friends. Roy Martin of Independence regis tered at 'the Imperial hotel during the week-end. Ted Berg, who has for the past seven months been working in the Sheridan sawmill, has returned to liifc home in this city. Miss Cora Rossiter has resumed hei teaching at the Dallas public school after an illness of several weeks. Fred Boydston, who has been work ing at Timber, is in the city visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Boydston. Herman Petre of Airlie was in the city Thursday transacting business. Judge Harry H, Belt and Miss Blanche Barrett left yesterday morn ing for McMinnville, where the re trial of the Branson murder case is being held. Robert Kieason spent Saturday and Sunday in Salem, visiting. Dr. R. C. Virgil attended the meet ing of the osteopaths of the Willam ette valley in Albany Saturday night. Mrs. Hubert Goodc of Portland is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rich this week. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Craven spent Sun day in Sheridan with W. Tyler Smith, Mrs. Craven's father. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gibson and family will leave the latter part ot the week for Portland, where they will reside. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Smith were in the city Sunday visiting at the home of Mrs. Ruben Morris. Mr. and Mrs, Smith were enroute to McMinnville from their home in Marshfield. Elmer Lewis was transacting busi ness in the city yesterday. A son was born yesterday to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stiles who reside two miles West of the city. Mrs. W. F. Kurtz of Perrydale un derwent an operation for appendi citis Saturday at the Dallas Hospital. Dr. L. A. Bollman, asisted by Dr. Staats, performed the operation. Miss JoIu Coad and .Miss Alice Grant were in Salem Saturday after noon on business. Mrs. W. R. Hampden of St. Paul, Mo., is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter GrilHn. Mrs. Hamp den is a sister of Mrs. Grillin. Miss Helen Baird returned to Port land Sunday after spending the week end at the home of her mother, Mis. Nellie Baird. Mr. I 1 Mrs. Hugh Black, who has been quite seriously ill for the past month, was removed to the Dallas hospital where she underwent an operation yesterday. Dr. Staats, assisted bv Dr. Smith, specialist, of Portland, performed the operation. Mrs. Black was resting easily this morning and her rapid recovery is hoped for by many Dallas friends. R. S. Snyder of Albany arrived yesterday to assume his duties a ibookkeeper at the local office of tin, Oregon Power company. Mr. Snydei has been connected with the company for a number of years and before go, ing to Albany was employed in the Dallas office. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Muscott return. ed Sunday evening from Greene. Iowa, where thev have been visitim. with relatives for the past three months. They report the Iowa wintei as a very "old one and while tlic enjoyed their visit very much, cn glad to get back to the mild weathet here. Alfred Seufert, four-year-old son ol Carl Seufert of Airlie. was operated upon Sunday at the Dallas hospital for appendicitis. Dr. Bollman. as sisted by Pr. Siaats, performed the operation. Foremost among the church socials last week was the Colonial party "giv en at the Christian church on Thurs day evening by the ladies of the church. The reception halt was pret tily decorated with flags and bunting and small red! hatchets were display ed about the rooms. A pichwe of George' Washington was in evidence and honor was paid to him upon Ins birthday. During the evening a splen did program was given consisting of solos, instrumental music and clever readings. At a late hour a delicious luncheon was served by "made-up" negro waiters, as was characteristic of the Colonial period. The follow ing were in costumes: Mrs. Henry Campbell, "Martha Washington;" Mrs. Charles Lane, Mrs. Howard Mc Council and Mrs. Frank Brown were "Colonial Belles;" Mrs. Eugene Hay ter, lira. MeCann and Mrs. Samuel Gibson, "Old Fashioned Ladies;" Ma's. I. L. Smith, "old fashioned girl;'.' Miss Pearl Smith, "Pocohon tas;" Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Ellis and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ellis, "Country Belles and Beaux;" Sam Gibson, "George Washington." Howard Mc Connell, "La Fayette;" and Fraitk Brown, "Ethan Allen." Joe Malone, J. N. Helgerson, Walter Ballantyne and George Roberts. Cards and Sewing Enjoyed. Mrs. Herman Layher and Mrs. Ida Manston were charming hostesses Thursday evening, when they enter tained the members and guests of the Textile club at the, home of.Mrs. Man ston on South Main street. The spac ious rooms were artistically decorat ed in flags and ferns. Miss Pearl Uglow delightfully entertained at the piano. Cards and sewing were ithe main diversions of the evening after which a delicious luncheon was serv ed by the hostesses. Those bidden were: Mrs. Piauline Aulen, Mrs. Ross Ellis, Mrs. H. H. Dunkelbergeir, Mrs. N. L. Guy, Misses Pearl Uglow, Flora McCallon, Nora Robertson, Roberta McCallon, Maud Robertson, Effie Brown, Blanche Barrett and Miss Wilkes of Corvallis. Morrison, Almeda Benghton and Dor othy Benghton. Mrs. Fred Wagner Hostess. Mrs. Fred Wagner entertained a number of relatives on Friday Wter noon and evening in honor of her brother, Mr. I. AV. Elliott, who left for his Canadian home Saturday morning, after spending several weeks in Dallas. Mr. Elliott resides in Unity, Saskatchewan. ' Hop Club Has Party. The Hop club delightfully enter tained with a dancing party at the Wbodinan hall on Friday evening. The members of the Yaaka Hula clmb were invited guests. Dancing was en joyed from 8 :30 to 11 :30. Music was furnished by Miss Pearl Smith and Ray Boydston. Among those who enjoyed Jhe dance were: Misses Pearl Jost, Rachel Holloway, Claudia Plank, Georgia Spere, Lueile Loughary, Win ona Rice, Marjorie Holman, Muriel Grant, Maud Barnes, Helen Lough ary, Gladys Loughary, Nina Farley, Georgia Shaw and Gertrude Robinson and Messrs. Lawrence Smith, Victor Williams, John Farley, John Richard son, Ray Smith, Charles Hayter, El win Craven, Walter Craven, Ray Ghorke, Carvel Campbell, Irving Bal- derree, Herman Hawkins, Fred Gooch, Earl Cutler, Clifford Helgerson, Joe Helgerson, Ted Bei'g and Willis Mo- Daniel.' Mrs. C. L. Crider Entertains. The Klose Tillieum club was de lightfully entertained by Mrs. C. L. Crider at her home on Academy street, Thursday. The rooms were decorated in baskets of pussy willows. The din iug room was converted into a Ha waiian scene, with clever Kewpies dressed in Hawaiian costumes, wear ing the provincial love wreaths. Each member received a handsome piece of crochet, which was brought from the islands by Mrs. Crider. A delicious two-course luncheon was served. The members of the club present were: Mrs. Harry Belt, Mrs. E. K. Piasecki, Mrs. L. D. Brown, Mrs. A. B. Star buck, Mrs. H. H. Volheim, Mrs. S. B. Taylor, Mrs. A. B. Robinson and Mrs. C. B. Sundberg. - Gave Lecture at Rickreall. Dr. A. B. Starbuck gave a lecture on "Individual Preparedness" at the Dixie school in Rickreall last Friday night. The lecture was the principal feature of tho second of a series of monthly entertainments being given under Principal W. I. Reynolds for a school benefit fund. John W. Orr and Miss Edna Morrison ol two eolog and pleased ; with a duet. ;ii Mrs. A. B. Starbucks meeting of the Music Woman's club, to be heU of Mrs. Gilbert G. Mi Wednesday. Mrs. L. W. Horn Entertains. Mrs. L. W. Horn proved herself a delightful hostess Thursday after noon, when she entertained the mem bers of the Sew and So club at her home on Hayter street. The rooms were decorated in hatchets and dainty place cards were displayed at ithe luncheon table, which was appropri ately decorated for the occasion. Mrs. C. L. Foster assisted the hostess in serving. The members of the club present were; Mesdams Maurice Dal ton, Harry Viers, Harold Rich, Carl Williams, Lief Finseth, C. L. Foster, Simon Grmdheun, 0. I. Chenowetb and the hostess. Yaaka Hula Dancing Club Meets. A number of young people made merry at an informal dancing party given at the Woodman hall, Saturday evening given by the laaka tlula club. The dancers reveled until a late hour. Music was furnished by Rice and Williams. Among the members present-were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Tooze, Jr., Misses Nina Farley, Mar jorie Holman, Marie Griffin, Gladys Loughary, Kinma Skelton, Dora Kl- kins, Elina Harris, Georgia Shaw, Gertrude Robinson, Maud Barnes. Hallie Smith, Muriel Grant, Helen liugliary, Pauline Coad and Isabelle Alvord, Messrs. Clifford Helgerson. Fred Goocli, Harry Kuck, Laird Woods, Willis McDaniel. Frank Me Cann, Newman Dennis, Forrest Mar tin, Krnest McCallon, Irving Bahler rec. Jack Halsey, Herman Hawkins. Friends' Club Entertained. Mrs. Martha Cosper entertained the members of the Friends! club at har home on Jefferson street Thursday afternoon. Thetafternoon was delight fully spent in sewing, after which dainty refreshments were served. The members of the club present were: Mrs. Alice Dempsey, Mrs. P. Riggs, Mrs. Hardy Holman, Mrs. 1). Lovelace, Mrs. B. A. Grant, Mrs. D. O. Branson, Mrs. Hulda Sa very, Mrs. George Cntler and Mrs. Martha Cosper. Little Maids' Sewing Club Meets. The Little Maids' Sewing club met with Dorothy Benghton at the home of W. B. Austin on Church street. After a short business meeting a social hour was enjoyed and crispetts were served.
