Miss Velma Ray was a guest of Eugene friends. Clrarles A. Parks of Salem was in I the city Friday. Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Houk of Alva- dore were Christmas day guests of .Mrs. rtouk's parents, Mr. and Mrs W. E. Kertz in Perrydale. Lawrence Dinneen was at the home of his parents in Portland Sunday and Christmas day. Harry Campbell came to the city from a ranch near Helix, Oregon, for Christmas. C. R. Haynes of Bellfair, Wash., is spending the holidays at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Flum. Ward Barrett of Tillamook spent Christmas here with his mother and sister, Mrs. M. D. Barrett and Miss Blanche. John W. Orr and family were Christmas visitors with relatives at Rickreall. Miss Nell Link of Airlie was in the city shopping Friday. Miss Gladys and Vada Ruef of Hillsboro will spend the Christmas holidays with Miss Nina Farley and friends in this city. L-.li. Judge H. H. Belt was a Salem vis itor Friday, Mrs. Phil Begin went to Salem Fri day for a short visit. Carl Lnuerman of Autioch Valley returned Saturday to his home from a several weeks conhnement in the Dallas hospital. Jack B. Eakin is spending the . Frank M. Bethel was a visitor with relatives in Salem on Sunday and Monday. B. F. Wells and family have moved to Tacoma, where Mr. Wells is em ployed as carpenter. They were resi dents of Polk county and Dallas for fouirteen years. Miss Edith M. Jackson was at the home of her father, Charles Jackson, in Monmouth, Christmas day. Miss Anna Embree returned home last week from a visit of several months with her sons, Clyde and Van, in Harney county. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weaver and chil dren returned Thursday night from a week's stay in Portland. Frank Dennison of Salem on Sat urday visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Kersey. Ihomas Flippant of Corvallis spending the week in this citv. Mr. and, Mrs. W. I. Reynolds spent yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Bert Dennis in Snlem. On their return to Portland last evening Mr. and Mrs. Longnecker accompanied them to remain over the New Year. Elmer Butz and Albert Peterson were Portland visitors Sunday. Mrs. Chas. Lane attended the fu neral of her cousin, Mrs. Chester V. Hare in Portland, today. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Holman' enter tained Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Tetherow, and Mrs. Nita Gilbert and daughter, Barbara, of Falls City, Christmas day. Jack Eakin was in Independence Sjaturday evening. Halden Grant, son of Mr. and Mi's. G. 0. Grant, is seriously ill at his home on Lyle street. Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Grant and Mrs. Viola Morton are in Portland to at tend the funeral of Mrs. Chester J. Hare. Roy Bowman of Moro, Oregon, was in the city yesterday. Rev. and Mrs. Starbuck and daugh ter, Miss Edith Starbuck, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Starbuck. County School Supervisor Floyd D. Moore is in Portland to attend the teachers' meetings. Father Forget was a Dallas visitor Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Asa B. Robinson, Jr. returned this morning from Indepen dence, where "they spent Christmas day. E. B. Hamilton has filed suit against George H. Grover, et al., to recover money. R. L. Walker has filed a replevin action against E. L. Seehrist. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crum spent yesterday with Salem relatives. Mrs. F. J. Holman was the fortu nate drawer in the doll contest held at Crider 's store Saturday. Miss Norma Holman, Pedee teach er, is rapidly gaining strength at the Dallas hospital and will be able to go to her home the end ot this week. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Matlock were in Salem yesterday. Miss Edith M. Jackson returned this morning from a visit with her father in Monmouth. Obituary. Died in Portland, December 23rd, Beatrice, beloved wife ot Chester v. Hare, aired 39 years. Mrs. Hare will he remembered bv Dallas residents as Beatrice Elkins, daughter of William and Margaret Elkins, old time resi dents of this citv. and was also a niece of Mrs. William Grant and Mrs. FranK Collins of this place. Of her immedi ate, family she leaves her husband, one little daughter and one brother, Ross Elkins. beside other relatives and numerous friends, for she was of a most winnins personality and made friends where ever she went. Her de parture in the morning of life when everything was so fair and peaeetul is a sad blow to those who are left to mourn. Amusement Club Entertains. Mr. and Mrs. John Orr delightfully entertained the members of the Amusement club at their home on Washington street Saturday evening. The evening was enjoyably spent in 500," after which a dainty lunch eon was served. The members of the club are: Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Bloom, Mr. and Mrs. John Sibley, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. John Orr, Mr. and Mrs. Will Collins, and Miss Alta Savage and Robert Van Orsdel. Mrs. Dimick Leaves City. Mrs. Jasper B. Members of the local Artisan lodge to the number of at least 50 are plan ning to attend a big meeting of the Capital Lodge at Salem on Thursday night. Hon. Miller To Set Out Trees. John E. Miller is clearing four or five acres of land near the city and will set out prune trees in the spring. For the past several years Johnny has averaged three or four acres of trees and has hewed and made a beautiful home place out of the land he has.
