Hicks, a McMinnville attor ney, was a Dallas business visitor the court house regularly on Tues day, Thursday and Saturday of each week. Holman has changed his office from the Dallas National Bank building to rooms over the Staf- rin Drug company. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ames have moved to the Drs. Bollman and .Staats'' farm at Antiock Miss Martha Skersies of Salt Creek will teach at the Antioeh school this Harry Sachtler, who has been in this city for the past several weeks visiting at the home of Ihis brother. Robert, returned to his home in Ridgefield, Washington, this morning. Sheriff Orr and family left Satur day for Salmon river where they are enjoying an outing. They expect to return home tomorrow. Mrs. A. B. Starbuck and Mrs. J. L. Taylor left Monday morning for Sea side where they are attending the an nual convention of the State Federa tion ot Woman 'si clubs. They are del egates from the Dallas club. Mrs. F. R. Leonard, who with Mrs,' Guy S. Davis of New York, has been visiting in Dallas in interest of the Presbyterian missionary work, re turned to Salem Friday. Dr. E. J. Scheetz was in Indepen dence on business Monday. Usear Hayter made a business visit to independence on Saturday. Miss Rose Bedell of Salem visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Starbuck on Monday. Earl Brownlee of Oregon City spent the week-end with friends in Dallas. .. Sibley and Deputy Sheriff Hooker were in Cor vallis yesterday morning. Joe Helgerson has received a no torial commission from the state. T. 15. Hooker was in Monmouth Sunday. A marriage license was issued re cently to Homer Ruch to marry Pearl Quivey. Rev. and Mrs. Erskine and the or chestra of the Evangelical church went to Rickreall Sunday to assist in the rally exercises in the United Evangel ical church at that placa Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ray and Miss es Velma Ray and Jennie Morris were Sunday visitors in Lebanon. Mrs. Bonnie Smith, who has lately been a patient at the Dallas hospital, is now at home and was permitted to sit up a part of Monday. Miss Owens of the high sehool fac ulty received a visit from her par ents of Portland Sunday. On their return she acompanied them as far as Silverton and returned Monday morn ing in time for institute. A reception was held at the Metho dist church last evening in honor of Kcv. and Mrs. Geo. H. Bennett, who leave Thursday for Klamath Falls, where Rev. Bennett will take ehargo of a new pastorate. A very enjoyable program was given wlueli consisted oi a vocal solo, "Memories," by Miss Roxanna Fiske, an instrumental solo by Miss Kleine Oxford, a vocal so lo, "Absence," by Mrs. Walter L. Tooze, Jr., a vocal solo by Miss Edna Morrison. "Can't Yo Hear Me Call- in', Caroline." The farewell address" es were given by various pastors, in cluding Rev. MeConnell, Rev. Tap- scott, Rev. Erskine and Rev. Ben nett. During the evening a light luncheon was served by Mesdauieg Ed ward Shaw and Walter Williams, and Misses Nora Robertson and Fanny Dempsey. About 200 were present The church was very beautifully doc orated with autumn leaves. Mask and Dagger society of Oregon Agricultural college. Forty-two stu dents tried' for the society and but 11 were chosen. Miss Lucas was al so elected president of the Madrigal club, the girls' singing organization.! Mr. and Mrs. Carl Williams enter tained at cards Thursday evening for Misses Hazel Knight, Leone Williams, Almeda 3. Fuller and Mossrs. Carl Fenton, Herman Hawkins and Oscar I, Chenoweth. Following cards a chafing dish supper was served. Artisans Will Dance. The local lodge of United Arti sans will hold a public dance follow ing the regular meeting tomorrow night. The funeral of Mrs. Mary Robert son, who died in the Salem receiving hospital, was held Sunday afternojn fn in Chapman's undertaking parlors. Rev. G. E. Erskine officiated. Mrs. IJobertson had been in the h spi';al but a few days. The dead woman was 15 years of age and was the wid ow of Harvey Robertson of this coun ty who died in March. She is sur vived by three children: Mrs. Wil liam Brown of Dallas, Mrs. Flower of Salem and Elias Robertson of Falls City. Celebrate Golaen Wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Baniett cele brated their golden wedding at their Sheridan home Tuesday evening. They have been Sheridan residents since 18!)7. The following children and grandchildren attended the cele bration: Mrs. Allen and seven chil dren of Sheridan; Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Short and five children and Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Barnett and two children of Ballston; Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Aaron of Sheridan; Mr. and Mi's. E. H. Muller of Salem ; and great grand child, Miss Evelyn Reese of Sheridan. Other relatives present yere: Peery Simonds, a nephew of California and Miss Clara McConnthy, a niece of Salem. Receive Certificates. Miss Edith Johnson, Miss Bessie Kennard and Miss Ina Graham of the Falls City schools, are among the Polk county, teachers who have re-! cently received professional certifi cates. Owing to the rush of papei-s received at the office at the close of the year these certificates were among the last to be awarded. ! The W. F. M. society of the Meth odist Episcopal church met at the homo of Mrs. L. A. Bollman last Friday evening and elected the fol lowing officers for the ensuing year: Mrs. Fred Wagner, president; Mrs. J. 0. Tracy, secretary; Mrs. Jennie Williams, treasurer, Mrs. L. A. Boll man, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Day, supt. King's Heralds; Mrs. Pearl Shaw, asst. supt. King's Her alds; Mrs: Stauffer, Mite Box super intendent.
